Im a little confused,
I do three coin tricks strolling , An in the hands Gadabout coins, ending in a jumbo production rather than the two coins supposedly in the hands vanishing. A 3 fly, no gaffs one E#### coin though. Not really a routine , but a borrowed signed coin appears in my shoe. Using a retention vanish and wipe, and then just FP it and drop it in as the shoes brought up. And close-up, with a table I do A tabled gadabout coins , also using a jumbo production to end. Ross Bertrams coin assembly And Im working on a winged silver, but a mix of Ponta the smiths version and Bobos. Im confused as to whether this makes me a coin worker or not? Or do I just do a few coin routines? Simon |

Are you looking for an appropriate label to stick to your forehead? If not what's the difference?
If I do a little bit of coin magic, a little bit of cards, silks and ropes does it make me a coin worker, cardist, silk worker and a rope worker? That would be awesome. I could post all those titles to my website or place next to my name on a business card... I don't think the number of coin tricks you perform is a right criterium to choose when looking for an answer here... What I am sure about is that you do more coin magic than many (if not most) magicians who do only 2 or 3 coin routines. Good job R.

As part of that I explained why for now I just do magic , coin magic is part of magic, and I'm curious as to whether the coin magic I do is a lot more or a lot less than some people. Thanks for the reply RadMak , I guess I do a bit more coin work than some guys, I just hope I can make it a lot better. Simon |

I drew and painted on and off for a long time, I never called myself an artist
I took many classes and painted a lot and drew a lot, I never called myself an artist I sold one painting, beating Van Gogh, I never called myself an artist One day while walking and looking at the landscape around me and suddenly realizing I was seeing it through pencils and brushes I realized that I was an artist. If you have to ask you are not there, if you are there you don't have to ask.
The real magic is family!

Then again, you don't really need anyone's approval to call yourself a coin worker. But, for what it's worth, you seem like one to me.

Thanks for the reply , I was a little confused because most card men know loads and loads of card effects, and I also do know a fair few. But with coins I only really know the ones I mentioned and a handful more. I guess it comes down to quality not quantity.

I say you are what you say you are if you can prove it or if it looks like it to people. You do a few coin tricks, and eventually that's about all people come to do anyway no matter how many coin effects they have or have learned. I think when one dabbles in coins a lot (or exclusively) then he might consider himself a coin man, and I'm more that than anything else I s'pose. But you can just do a few coin tricks (bet you do them pretty well too) and still call yourself a worker. Incidentally I like the idea of Signed Coin to Shoe, cute! I know a lot of coin tricks but typically only perform a few of my favorites. I've come up with a few card tricks too and will do them to break up all the coin work. I don't rightly consider myself a card man but if I only did some card tricks and some deck manipulations you'd think I was...I been practicing. Anyway, better than being a good coin man is being a good close-up man IMHO. Other than that, it really don't matter what you call yourself and most of us don't call ourselves anything, we just do magic and hope people call us "Good."

Thanks mate. And you are most welcome here in this part of the Café, just show your coins as ID.
And as to being a good close-up man, well here's one of the best I've ever seen. And I say if he say's he's a coin man, I'd believe him...if he says he's a card man, I'd believe him. He's anything he says he is and he can prove it well enough and then some as a more well-rounded and quite expert close-up man and he's got something for everybody. Check out what I mean here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rJSmcgJ_wA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfLImt6oMZM&feature=related This the sorta stuff you want to be able to do anytime, anyplace to produce smiles and wonderment.

Wow , that was pretty good. I will post a video of me doing Ponta the Smiths backfire assembly in a few days. If I can figure out how to attach a video.

That was a great video.. And this is the style of magic I would like to achieve one day..
Magic is not about performing difficult sleight of hand (because lay people can't say wether a sleight is difficult or not). It's about making people have a great time..
Searching for the magic side of life...

Hey Simon... based on what you do with Gadabout coins... you for sure are a magical entertainer using coins as your props! Isn't that what matters? if you enjoy using coins to garner 'astonishment' then you are a coin worker in many circles.

Yeah and here's another one for you Simon to put in your pocket. It's from a brilliant young close-up man that just happens to have a gifted specialty with coins as well. Truth be told, I've always said he was one of the very best out there and he is, and has proven that many times over. Check out why here:
