By the way, Pete, I just re-read my post before your last one and realized that it could (could) come off as a snide response. I actually meant the comment as a "Hey, we thought of the same thing!" kind of deal. I also just saw Eric Jones do this on a YouTube video, the same way you pointed it out, but really - it is not exactly a hard or far-fetched thing to think of, is it? Do you use Smoke from Alan? If so, how do you like it?

Do not underestimate the value of this trick in terms of audience reaction.
I did this this past weekend to open my close-up sequence as part of the All-Star "Magic of Schulien's" Close-up Show at this year's 2011 Houdini Club Convention and it got gasps from the audience. In close-up situations, I do this as a 1-2-3 sequence where I: 1. Explain that I'm trying to quit smoking, remarking that 100 years ago you couldn't go to the store and buy cigarettes, you would have to roll your own, then proceed to do so using a cigarette paper (flash paper) and pantomime pulling a small pouch of tobacco from my breast pocket, opening the drawstring bag, pouring the invisible tobacco into the ciagarette paper, then finish rolling the cigarette, light the paper, and with a flash a real cigarette appears at my fingertips. 2. I then vanish the cigarette using Eugene Burger's "Cocaine Cigarette" move, and then say.....wow....they gave me a BIG headache, at which point I reach in my right coat pocket, pull-out a tiny aspirin tin, then shake out a GIANT Aspirin pill from it. It's a NICE sequence and it works. During the summer, when I work outside for rock promoters and entertain the bands backstage, I use a cold fire gimmic, light my thumb, and light the cigarette and vanish it using a cigarette pull. In my opinion, "Flash Cigarette" DESTROYS!!! |

Very strange, as most magicians want to learn a trick to show their friends to show 'what they can do', not entertain them with videos. What video there is of Roy Benson is being sold in DVD format. It's title is "IT'S MAGIC" sold by Miracle Factory. This is not a teaching DVD but a watching DVD. |

Roy Benson by Starlight is now going for $450...... And the moral of that story is....... 1. Buy everything you can as a Magician, and... 2. Hold onto it forever....... |
