Helder Guimarães and Derek DelGaudio wrote a very important text for all magicians and performers : The MANIFESTO
http://journalofsecrets.com/ I've translate it in french with agreement, text here : http://www.lawrensgodon.com/An-Incomplet......Magician It's also translate into spanish : http://journalofsecrets.com/?page_id=41 I think that many magicians should read and learn from this text, especially the young people... PS: it's maybe posted elsewhere on the Café, didn't find any link... |

What a great message! Thanks for pointing it out to everyone.

A lot really right with that. However, I have a different definition of what makes a good magician vs. a great magician.
In my eyes, someone can become a good magician using the tricks that he's already learned, but to be a great magician, he must have original, signature pieces that elicit common recognition of the great magician when the original effect is described to another magician. Being considered a great magician should be something special and not just available everywhere. It should be a triple threat, where the artist is a great performer, inventor and skillful. |

Dunno yet if I agree with all of it, but... but... but...
There is one part I do agree with right here right now and always have. The part about finding your voice. I agree with all of that. The result is not the same as the process. The ends do not justify the means. When all is said and done, all most people remember is how they felt about it.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |
