Did you guys hear about David Blaine's latest stunt?
He is going to be in a glass box for 44 days with out food in London. I THINK he is going to be hung high in the air. Am I missing any information? What do you guys think about this stunt? It doesn't seem like street magic to me. thanks, big k |

Not everything David Blaine does is street magic. There are numerous articles at http://www.magictimes.com that explain why he does his stunts and give insights to his thinking. He has been branded with the street magic title, but I assure you it is not a trick.

You say it's not a trick but it would be IMPOSSIBLE to go without nutrients for that long. I know he's in the box but i think there'll be something in the water he's given just to keep him alive.

Is it possible to go without food that long?

I don't know about food. But people I think can last a whole week with out water. I think any longer than that, your dead.

David says he'll only be drinking tap water with no added nutrients and he will expel this through a catheter (ouch!) and will also have a supply of diapers to wear. David also mentions, in one of many articles, a man who went on a hunger strike for 65 days, he died on his 66 day of fasting.

The body can survive for theoretically months without food, but only 7 days without water. Makes sense being the body is 98% water. There are enough nutrients in the muscles and fat stores of the body that it can feed off itself. Once you get over the "hunger" then the rest is a cakewalk. He is also planning on fasting 5 days prior to avoid needing to dispose of any feces. He is loading up on nutrients and electrolytes via Gatorade type drinks and supplements. I think Dunninger said it best, "For those who believe, no explanation is needed. For those who don't, none will suffice."

I think it's only 3 days without water, but yes, you can go 44 days without food. David has used catheters in his previous 3 stunts.

I've read of many men who have fasted for 40 days successfully, drinking only water. No "trick" is needed to do it, just being in the proper physical shape. For example, last night I saw Blaine giving his media conference. I was quite surprised to see how much weight he had gained. Then I realized what his next stunt was going to be. That extra fat will serve him well over the next month. Brian |

A highly interesting topic, perhaps we need a new branch of magic titled perseverance or something similar. Is this magic at all?

He has done things like that earlier also, when he was in ice for a very long time. So it’s not first time for him to do something else other than street magic.
