This effect looks fantastic. I have a question I think no one has asked.
Where I live, we don't say 4 of hearts. We say Heart 4. In other words we write it the other way around. Can I use this effect the way people are used to here, or do I have to show them 4 of hearts? |

Mikael,
No. You are limited to exactly the way it appears on the trailer. Due to the nature of the method, you are extremely limited in what you can reveal and how. |

Mikael, I belive you will be able to come up with something. You are not restricted to specific drawings, you just have to make sure the two drawings relate in a certain way. I fully believe this product is brilliant and open ended enough to allow us all to apply our own creativity.
And as for the "correcting a mistake" plot - you don't have to do this. Just have two selections picked and change the prediction from one to the other. Or better yet force 2 cards and offer them a free choice of 1, while both are face up. Then change the ink if you need to, or show them what would've happened had they selected "the other one." There is just so much you can do. |

The method is sound but after seeing it in person, the gimmick due to how it looks, is a dead give away. Not a fan.
On a positive note, the thing comes with a Xpert which is nice. |

My views still stands though, this thing is ok at a distance but for close up walk around type work, it's not very good regardless if a spectator is familiar with the Bicycle box or not. I think I much prefer the drawing change that Peter Eggink came up with a long while back (at least I remember it to be Peter's, I may be wrong). Kind of a much more limiting version of the animated changing drawing on a card box idea but it looks MUCH better IMHO. |

As I mentioned I use this as part of my Flea Circus allowing the audience to watch my Fleadini draw a picture or make a flower grow on the card box. So far it has generated very very good responses. I agree you need to take an effect and personalize it to your style. I am having a lot of fun with Ink and I'm glad I purchased it.

Even thou it is somewhat limited to the English language it is one of the best, most satisfying effects I got my hands on this year and is an absolute joy to perform. Why? Because magic is first of all a visual art and that effect is the quintesence of visual magic.
Magic, in essence, is the ability of conjuring spirits who help the magician accomplish astonishing feats.

I like to buy my decks in bulk at a wholesale store. (BJ's Wholesale here on the East Coast. Almost exactly like Sam's for the rest of the country.) Anyway, The decks have the 10 of hearts back design and not the back-of-cards design. Does anyone know where to get those wholesale? Such a great trick released at time when Bikes decide to re-design their packaging!
Thanks! Matt B |

You can buy empty boxes at most of the dealers in the U.S.
You can try Penguin, MJM Magic, Magic Warehouse, etc. It is pretty useless to buy new regular decks as they now come in the new packaging design. Or if you want to save up more money, just glue one card on the back side and get a new cellophane

Anyone who owns this effect, I would appreciate a review of the "fragility" or the "durability" of the gimmick. I have heard that it is fragile and breaks easily. Is this so? And if it's true, does it lend itself easily to home repairs with tape and glue, etc?
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

I have found the old box designs in dollar generals. Though when I opened a pack the ads were updated. So they're obviously going through back stock on boxes.

I was really looking forward to this when I first received it. It certainly has a lot of potential but the gimmick is very fragile and mine already broke. My attempts to fix it have not worked and so I am left with nothing as of now. I hope to get some more Café advice on how to fix it properly. The DVD comes with instructions but my gimmick seems to be deffective.

I'd say it is usually fairly durable. I actually found the gimmick pretty easy to replicate once I knew exactly how it worked...but then again, I'm pretty adept at building my own gimmicks these days when possible. For me, the gimmick hasn't been an issue. What HAS been an issue is writing with the dry erase marker so that everything looks natural to the spectator rather than suspicious. Sorry, I'm being a bit vague, but I'm sure those who own INK will know what I mean. I've tried using various markers, but I haven't felt comfortable with this at all. Sadly, it's been sitting in my bottom drawer as a result. Anyone have tips on this? Perhaps I could PM someone willing to help with more details?

I should also be more clear on the on the durability. It is much less durable than say a d***le b*cker or other simple gimmick, but mine has been more durable than say a Distortion/m**ing p*p gimmick. Hopefully that helps....

On WPR they went whacka doodle over Ink. They said once you take the card out of the box, the box is examinable. Anyone do Ink, remove the cards and then just put the box off to the side, near someone? I would "think" that they pick it up and run their finger on it, taking the ink off. That would be an extra BAM for the trick.
I would be very tempted to do the hat blowing off ( with them doing the blowing ). That would get big reactions. Tossing the box aside to go into something else, you'd get that extra punch when they picked up the box. Just toying with ideas to see if it's for me. |
