I have only performed the Color Monte a few times and each time I've had good reactions from it. Easy to do and a great confidence booster.

Color Monte for its simplicity, and the ultimate Three Card Monte.

I have always stuck with the version of Three Card Monte by Dai Vernon as it was printed in the Ultimate Secrets of Card Magic books. Classic magic using no special or gimmicked cards and as such can be performed anywhere. I do sometimes throw in Trevor Lewis' "Monte Plus" move at times too.

I must also go with Ultimate 3 Card Monte by Micheal Skinner, just a beautiful piece of magic. I have performed Color Monte in the past a couple of times but I always will stick to the Skinner Monte. Someone mentioned above that he doesn't like it, for not showing the corners looks suspicious. It only looks suspicious if you make it an uncomfortable position. If you work on making everything appear fluid and natural, the trick will take care of itself.

A quick note to monte lovers: I HIGHLY recommend Switch A* Roo from Russ Niedzwiekie, as it will allow you to hand out your gaffed monte cards.

The only montes that I have ever used are ungaffed montes. I just like the taditional look to tossing the cards and the fact that they can be examined anywhere in the routine. I also think that the bent corner to all money cards is just as good if not better then anyother climax out there. The monte that I use most often now is the one from Doc Eason's Bar Magic Volume 1.

I must go with Color Monte. When I worked at the magic and juggling shop, I used to sell a lot of them. It is a great trick for the beginner. I blew away my wife and all my friends with it. They still ask to see it if we are out somewhere.

As for the Ultimate Three Card Monte, I never purchased it because by that time I was into learning a "real" Monte routine, but I had a couple of kids come in one day, bothering the customers and wanting to bet on a trick by doing the regular Three Card Monte. He was good but frazzled when I kept finding the card. So I took out the demo of Ultimate Three Card Monte and blew him away. He was back the next day with his mom to get it and a couple of videos. I never had a problem with him after that. He was a great kid.

So those are my votes:
Color Monte
Ultimate Three Card Monte
Regular tried and true Three Card Monte with no gaffs or gimmicks

Thank you
Shawn

For a gaffed version I like Skinner's Ultimate a lot.

I am surprised no one mentioned the Hindu Monte by Paul Wilson (off of Knock 'Em Dead). It is a very natural handling that can be done impromptu and I definitely prefer it over the color monte's "alignment"-thing which is a move no one would ever do when normally (or even AB-normally) handling cards.

It's actually called Gypsy Monte, and yes, I agree, the handling and presentation is MUCH better than that of Color Monte.

The only Monte I have ever used comes from Chuck Fayne, entitled "Sorry, You Lose". It's a combination of Oil & Water and Three Card Monte that makes perfect sense.

The one I like to use the most does not have "Monte" in its name but it is done similiar like other Montes. It is called, "It's Done With Mirrors".

Thank you for the lead to Gypsy Monte, after reading your post I went to my copy of Knock’em Dead and watched this effect. I will be adding this to my set. I especially like using the tarot cards for the added touch of mysticism.
