I seem to remember you doing Russian Roulette at the Castle in the early 80s.

Balls of steel routine and a great performance by the young Mr. Cassidy.
I have one question tho: the presentation you used in the video was a shorter version of your stage one or the same? David |

Basically the same. But those who have read my later versions of the effect will note that I later added a subtle modification to the method that added another logical disconnect and layer of deception.
The few times that I performed the effect with real bullets, however, required a somewhat longer presentation. Good thoughts, Bob |

The other problem in doing the effect today is a practical one. It's a pain in the butt to take the equipment on airlines and many venues frown on the use of firearms without special licenses and insurance.
But I hope that posting this video will at least correct the recent tendency to refer to "Smash and Stab" effects as "Russian Roulette." They're not even close. Good thoughts, Bob |

There's one more thing I would like to ask about your presentation
Before performing this effect in the show (or when you performed it in your "regular" shows) did you introduce in some previous effects the "second sight" idea that you refer in 3:51 when you ask the participant not to stay in front of the audience? David |

mastermindreader 1949 - 2017 Seattle, WA 12586 Posts |
Yes. The effect was the closer to my show at the time and the audience had already been introduced to the idea of focusing their thoughts on an imaginary mental screen.
The theme in Russian Roulette is that I am determining the positions of the numbers by picking up the thoughts of the audience. That's why the participant is asked not to block their view of the easel. Good thoughts, Bob |

Bob, great words of wisdom and thanks for posting this piece of history of your career. You are right when you say that some (and truth be told, maybe a majority of the audience) finds this to be a bit queasy and unnerving to watch.

Mr. Cassidy,
Would you mind telling me about one of the times you used real bullets and why? Thanks. |
