'The Complete Guide to Wedding Magic' By Stephen Ablett
Below is the trailer for my latest release, due out the 22nd Sepetmber at the IBM Southport Convention 2011 and from my website from Monday 26th September (as soon as I get back). Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zkpib_qrmho The Complete Guide to Wedding Magic is a Four DVD set consisting of nineteen full magic routines, all scripted around the theme of love. These routines have been prepared to fit into the three types of wedding magic (Table, Parlour & Reception) so that you will be completely prepared for whatever type of entertainment you need to provide. Each routine is accompanied by a live performance at Illusions Magic Bar to a real audience before a full explanation which includes a complete breakdown of the moves and sleights involved. Many of these routines are Stephen’s original creations and include several effects that have won him numerous magic competitions over the last few years. This is then followed by a fourth DVD where he and several other magicians discuss how to work a wedding, along with how to get the work through wedding fayres. This is the ultimate guide on entertaining at weddings as a professional magician. Parlour Magic (2hrs, 17 mins) Champagne Compass: A bottle continuously changes direction leading to a shocking end. Paddles & Heart Sponges: Hearts on paddles vanish & appear before turning into sponges. Heart & Silk: A silk is produced, penetrates a solid metal heart and then turns into a rose. Couples Cards: A ‘couple’ picture is selected which happens to match the prediction. Jack Spade PI: A story-deck routine where every card is produced in-time with a narrative. Table Magic (1hr, 47 mins) Love has Great Power: The spectators match up shuffled pairs of picture cards perfectly. Book Test: An anytime, anyplace, any book book-test. Night out with the Ladies: The spectator chooses a partner but has an unexpected ending. The Four Card Trick: Hearts vanish from the cards and appear on the spectator’s card. Glass & Strawberry: A strawberry continually reappears under a glass then turns into a lime. Key to my Heart: The spectators have to find the key to the magician’s heart shaped lock. Gamble with my Heart: My version of five card repeat, with a surprise ending. Reception Magic (1hr, 52 mins) Ambitious Waltz: A unique take on the ambitious card with an anniversary waltz ending. Heart & String: The spectator makes a pendant spin in circles in their own hands. Eye of the Beholder: A picture is selected that happens to be different from all the rest. Card in Heart Balloon: A thought-of playing card appears inside a heart shaped balloon. Ring & Rose: A ring vanishes and appears inside a rose. Ring & Band: A ring penetrates on and through an elastic band. Rose Productions: Two simple methods for producing roses at any time during your act. The Discussion (1hr, 40 mins) How to get work from a Wedding Fayre, when to perform for the Bride & Groom and how to stop the children from following you around – These and many more questions are finally answered in this discussion that goes into great detail about working the wedding market. |

Impressive trailer! My only concern is that it looks like it involves a lot of props I don't have! Can you share what's required?

I hope that this release is better from your "body tricks" video.

On the props required, there are PDF + Jpegs for several of the tricks as a Data file on the discs. So it’s quite easy to print them out and make up yourself.
For the others like sponge hearts, heart shaped padlock and linking hearts, links are provided for where to get them from where possible. But most of the tricks you can make up yourself quite easily with stuff you already own (like the ambitious waltz, book test etc). And once you learn the templates I use, you can then use the principles behind it to make up your own effects. For instance, the Champagne Compass template is included, but using that template you can make one up with a corporate logo or Christmas tree theme for trade show work and Christmas party. I have one made up with a pencil, and have two comical endings which are funny drawings. But I then open it up and produce the appearing 8ft pencil from it. So the ability take it and use the techniques further offer even more potential. Body Tricks was my very first release back in 2006, and while I am very proud of it, and all it has achieved it is starting to show its age (mainly because I still have hair in it!). But technically, this one is much better. I will say that there are some lighting differences for the explanations, as the direction of the sunlight changed throughout the day so that looked a little odd. But it makes no difference to the subject matter or what you are learning. I do miss my hair though (and I’m not talking about the rabbit). Steve |

I do not talk about video quality Steve, rather the audacity to teach effects that are not your authorship. I hope that in this video credits and permission are added, thing that also happens in you ring magic video.

Everything that needed crediting has been and I even had two other magicians sit in with me for the story deck routine as there were so many moves involved, they could chime in with the credits where my memory failed me. I even credited Al Wheatley for the invention of chop cup and the Wesley James for the anniversary waltz (not chris carter or doc Eason as everyone thinks, but I mention them on the DVD anyway just to keep the magic police happy anyway. So everything is credited where needed.

Geeeez blackpine 0008, quite aggressive posts and attacks on this public forum before you knew what was what. Perhaps next time a private PM would be a more suitable approach. Such audacity!

Great idea! Wedding magic is something that is very big here in Canada. I like what you have done with my Linking Hearts - great to see somebody doing something different with them.

Cheers Paul.
Yeah your linking hearts are absolutely fantastic! The heart and silk routine I devised for the solid heart is one of the strongest effects on the discs. The penetrations are extremely visual and using a silk offers so much more scope than rope. Also, the shape of the heart allows the silk to look off, when actually on and vice versa. Anybody performing weddings should own your hearts, even if they just replace it for the hoop in the ring and rope routine – the amount of fun you can have it them are superb and the scope for heart shaped puns is priceless. Another lovely idea somebody shared with me for Linking Hearts is just using two heart rings. You patter about 'a gap between two people' and how they join up - then actually show a 'gap' in the ring - then visibly take the gap off and they are linked! It's very very cool. So many wonderful ideas out there - I should do a follow up DVD just for the heart ring variations (hint hint steve:)

Blindside785, you may have made a blunder here, because this thread is two years old. ku7uk3 once PM'd me, very annoyed, that I brought back an older thread. So even though this is his product, he will be very angry this thread was brought back, which shows his integrity. Just explain to him that you weren't aware of his rule on bringing back older threads. Most likely you'll get off with just a warning.

Does anyone have these discs? I haven't seen much in terms of compilations of wedding themed magic. I'd love to see some reviews.
