Doesn't seem any different than the guy who was selling "color TVs" out of his trunk. When you got the box home, it was a tv tube with a couple of bricks to weigh it down.

We used to have guys selling really cheap stereo speakers in parking lots. Their story was that they ordered a pair from Japan and in error they were sent 10 pairs, so they could afford to sell them cheaply. People fell for it.

Still quite common. I know a few guys who do this regularly and make better money part time than I do working full time!
