This is being taught in my current lecture tour and this is the effect:
Imagine a freely selected card (no force) and a random number. There is deck on the table you have never touched. It has been in full view before the effect started. Anyone counts down to the random number and at that number is the freely selected card.

Let's go into more details. A red deck UNCASED is on the table. A blue deck is shown and person selects a card from the deck in his own hands. There is NO FORCE. The choice is free and the magician does NOT touch the deck during the selection. In fact, the magician doesn't even have see or know the card. Read that again. The person selects a card that is REALLY unknown to you! He shows it to the audience. If he doesn't like the card, he can replace it and select another card, no kidding!

To ensure a random number, a block of cards is cut off by the participant. He counts the cards aloud. There is no force, you have no idea how many cards he will have in his hands. You state that no one could have known how many cards would be in his hand. The number was derived at random by counting the number of cards in his hand. Assume he selected the four of clubs and the number of cards in his hand are 22.

Another person picks up the red deck which you have NOT TOUCHED and counts down from the top to the 22nd card. He always counts from the top face down. The card at position 22 is the 4 of Clubs. Baffling beyond words, and get this, NO SLEIGHTS, no math, no formulas to remember. Believe it or not, this is self-working. The few magicians I have taught this too have been doing this at magic club meetings and blowing away the other magicians. ULTRA-Clean. No gimmicks, just use any two decks.

If you attend my current lecture tour, you will learn this for free provided your club booked: A Knight to Remember lecture.

I have had many people say they would like to learn this but won't be in an area where I am lecturing. They have asked if it is available otherwise. Finally, after many requests I have made this available as a PDF along with 2 other effects.
It is being reviewed and discussed on the Café here:

Does this effect require 2 spectators? Can't it be done on a one-on-one setting?

I purchased this and I have NOT performed it yet but the reading is very interesting. This is one that I will use. I need to work with it and make sure I'm doing it correctly and then I will post more. The method is very nice and clever!

BTW Devin is the only one selling this PDF and I understand it will not be sold anywhere but at his lectures and his web-site.

Is the method similar to Patrick Redford's "Hands Off"?
Are two decks examinable, with all the cards inside different? (I ask that because the counting has to be done face down... why?)

Completely different from Patrick's method. Both decks are examinable, with all the cards different. You can deal the cards face up and sometimes I do.

Is this 100%?
I'm asking because I can do the effect exactly as descibed but it required a c*i**, so there would remain a certain risk...

Very nice! I am tempted Smile
But then, why in the description it is written: "He always counts from the top face down" ?

Sounds like Devin was trying to explain that the procedure is always the same.
There is no "Well, this time, deal from the *bottom* of the deck, will you please..." or other similar shenanigans.

Or at least that's how I read it.

How long did you wait to get the pdf after you paid?

I got mine almost right away. Gorecki you are right you will always deal from the top face down. This also shows the specs you did NOT pass their card. It's a nice effect and I'm glad I purchased it.

Yes just to clarify, the procedure is always the same, the person deals off the top of the face down deck and turns the cards face up as he deals until he comes to the chosen number which will have the freely selected card. No nonsense such as cut the cards first, deal from the bottom...the person always deals the cards face up from the top of the deck...and you NEVER touch the deck prior to dealing. The cards can be on the table in full view OUT of the case, believe it or not!

Devin, this is brilliant. Thank you!

@entermagic: Yes, completely free cut by the spec. They can even change their mind and cut further. NO force of ANY kind. Truly ULTRA-Clean and self-working.
Some think Houdini used trap doors in his act, but he was just going through a stage.

This may not be the holy grail, but it is darn close, and about as clean as you can get with no forces or restrictions. Glad you guys like this.

The number selected is free choice and the card selected is free choice?

It seems like The Eyes of Darkness same steps Ultra clean but
there is force.

What are the differences between this CAAN and the Eyes of Darkness???

Very nice effect, congrats Devin!
But the description of the effect made at the beginning of this thread in not "exactly" true. Here is what it is said (I've only quoted the suspicious part):
------------------------------------------------------------
The person selects a card that is REALLY unknown to you! He shows it to the audience. If he doesn't like the card, he can replace it and select another card, no kidding!

To ensure a random number, a block of cards is cut off by the participant. He counts the cards aloud.
-------------------------------------------------------------------

In reality, the block of cards is cut off BEFORE the card is seen (selected), so when the card is chosen, the number is also chosen. When you read this description, you think that the card is selected, and THEN the spectator cuts a block a of cards, which is not exactly true.
I don't go into much details not to expose anything on the forum, but I just wanted to clarify Smile
