I am in need of a chop cup big enough to be seen from a plat form or small stage. I have seen them before but I can't seem to find one for sale anywhere. I have googled with no results if any body can help me that would be great. Thanks

RNM... Larger Chop Cups are kind of scarce; here is a photo of the largest Chop Cup I know that is available currently...
It’s a RNT2 Ken Brooke Master Chop Cup... I collect Cups and find it quite big for my liking compared to others. James Riser made a larger Chop Cup at one time and has stopped... I have never seen one come up for sale on the used market. I don’t know if your performing persona is like your name Red Neck... you could make a big Chop Cup out of a Pringles Can really easily. Also at IKEA stores they have inexpensive cocktail shakers that can also be gaffed. Good luck finding what you are looking for... I bet if you contacted Donnie at RNT2, he would arrange a 30 day return for you, so that you might try his Ken Brooke Chop Cup. Bruce |

Bruce is correct. The Ken Brooke Master Cup is the tallest I have. I just had some Nickel plated and they look like the bottom half of cocktail shaker (except they do have a rolled mouth bead).
Remarkably, the Ken Brooke Master Cup will hold a baseball too. |

The two things that count re visibility are the size of the ball you work with and the size of the load. Paul Daniels used a cup that was basically the same as this one, only made of aluminum.
The Don Alan Chop Cup is also reasonably large, but not as tall.

That certainly is true Bill. A large, bright ball is probably more important than the size of the cup. The ball MUST be seen in order for the audience to follow the effect.

Go on you tube and watch Paul Daniels do the Ken Brooke routine with his added comedy touches. I've worked with Paul and he's done the chop cup for theater size audiences.
It's all in the way you present it. I think Paul prefers aluminum as it is dull and there's not reflection of the spotlight back to the audience.

Thanks for all of the help.
Posted: Sep 9, 2011 3:40pm I order a Ken Brooke master chop cup I think it will work great. I need your all's help one more time. I am planning on using balls I got from a pet store the balls look like tennis balls but about half the size. I am needing to open one of the balls up and put the special something in it to work with my new cup. What would everybody use to close the ball back up after the special something has been added? Also if anybody could recommend better balls for the cup I would be interested. I would like to have the look of a rubber ball but I don't know if that would be possible. Thanks RNM |

Just make a small slit with a sharp knife to allow for the ball modification - no need to glue anything in place, just push it in to the desired depth. Be sure not to push it in too far, because that will lessen the ball's grip on the gimmick, when you back it out. Paul Daniels, performed the chop cup at the London Palladium for 5000 people, so it's quite visible with the right lighting. |

Good alternatives above. But assuming that you prefer the balls to be mini tennis balls for a reason, two things come to mind right away.
1. Aren't those pet toys hollow like a real tennis ball? If so, that's going to create a serious problem. 2. If it is solid and you can cut into it and put something into it, make sure the something is pointing the right direction. How to reseal it? If it's not for close-up, don't worry about how pretty the seam is and just epoxy it shut under pressure. It certainly is worth checking out, I've only looked at these balls as load balls... You might be onto something here. And thanks for choosing Rings N Things! |

Thanks for all of the help. Donnie I can't wait to get my hands on the new cup your products are great I have owned them in the past. I will let everyone know how the small tennis balls work out as a chop cup ball. RNM
