Long ago I performed Chinese Rice Bowls using copper flower pots and dirt. It would be easy to modify these to your them.

Fill a pot with one kind of dirt - nothing happens.

Fill with a different dirt and you get weeds.

Dump and fill again to get twice as much dirt.

Finally you get a pot full of flowers or grain.
