According to Richard Hughes, who has commented twice on the Café regarding this, it is because of the India imports and the other European models being imported and sold by non-supporting dealers and wholesalers.
According to the comments on his Magic Castle lecture videos, Fantasio claims that dealers and wholesalers control his business more then he can. Dealers want shiny/glossy canes and that is what he 'must' manufacturer and supply. He sited his dull finish canes he attempted to market late 80's. The competition is just to great I guess. He once hand the market cornered, that is no longer true because of jobbers and importers. |

This is what can happen when rip offs are supported unknoingly or otherwise.

I just cannot believe that such a small limited market can even get attacked like this. At any one time it has been mentioned that there is only about 5000 magicians buying magic. Then when the item is highly specialized as in on stage and parlour magic, it even reduces the number of sales.
Goshman Products that also invented the modern perfect round sponge ball is somehow hanging on to his share of the marketplace. |

I honestly can't believe that Fantasio Candles will dissappear for good..
How can it be that a company manufactering a far superior product than the competition simply stopts production?? And Fantasio products aren't cheap, they're definately worth it, but I can't imagine that it's not a profitable line of products.. Anyway, let's hope production starts again in the future or a similiar product in quality will soon be on the market.. |

It's only $7 more for the Fantasio candles. It's so stupid that people can't spend $7 more to support the best and keep them alive for us all.

This the nature of magic. Fantasio is entitled to retirement. But his business has been hurt because of the knock offs. They copy his directions and try to duplicate his items. They fall short but the damage is done. The market can only hold so many products. Original products have been in danger of being knocked off. Whether magic or the real world, all companies are hurt by poor imitations. When you are taking about magic though, you are talking about a very small market share. It does not take long to saturate a market. And if you make a good productand once you fill the need, there is no demand for the product. You saturate the market and there is no place left to sell the product. I fight the cheap imitators every day. They copy the style of my work, the mechanisma and the ideas. They come from this country and from foreign lands that have products made in banned US trade companies.
Horace Marshall used to say "the more of the junk they buy, the more I will sell in the end when they tire of the junk and want something good". He was right. But you only hope that the original manufacturer will still be around when you need the good product again, Richard

I try to buy a quality candle,(not rip off) I send a email to Fantasio AND TODAY I GOT HIS ANSWER:
"Hi Ricardo, I ned to buy 2 Appearing Lit Candle Fantasio in white with holder. Can you help me where is this candle to my rotine?" Paulo Cabrita THE ANSWER: I don't send items outside USA. It is very expensive and I have to fill a lot of documents. I lost merchandise many times. I'm sorry. All the best! Fantasio. What do you think? |
