Happy with Happie
I bought a Happie Amp wireless PA system in February directly from Brian Happie. I got the original system (not the Happie Amp 2) because I didn’t need all of the features of the new model. I don’t know Brian, but I talked to him on the phone before deciding which model to purchase. I mostly do birthday shows in homes, at community centers and some Blue & Gold banquets. For many months the system worked fine. But recently I started noticing a loud hum sometimes in my show and some other clicks and popping noises. I wrote Brian Happie about my problem late Monday night. First thing Tuesday I got a reply from him asking me some specific questions about how the noises occurred and under what conditions. I replied Tuesday night. Wednesday I got another email from Brian telling me that he would send me out a new system and to send back the original. I told him I appreciated that and noted that I have shows this weekend. On Thursday, he emailed me again to make sure he had the correct address. Frankly, I was crossing my fingers and hoping that the new system would arrive before my show Saturday. This (Friday) evening, when I arrived home, there was the new system waiting for me. And it works like a charm. I’m posting this on the Café, the Bistro and the Buskers because I think that when someone goes above and beyond to give you great service, you ought to recognize it and let others know. So, yeah, I’m real happy with my Happie Amp. (Apologies for the cross post to those on more than one of these forums.) |

Yeah, I went to the Guitar Center this week to look at upgrade options for when I grow beyond my Happie Amp. My conclusion? When the time comes, I'll just buy a bigger speaker and hook it to the audio out on the Happie Amp. There's simply no other system I've found that does so much for so little.

I do have a large sound system for schools etc, but I just HAD to try it in a school assembly for 300 students. I hooked my MP3 Tech up to it, and it worked great! I wouldn't suggest it for that many people if you are outside or in a situation where there is a lot of background noise but in a controlled environment like a school assembly I was pleased with the result. My Fender Passport system is extremely heavy and bulky to carry into schools. The Happie amp will definitely take a load off my back!

I will say the one addition I made to my Happie Amp was a cheap ($25-ish? Can't exactly remember) flesh-colored thin headset mic purchased on eBay. But yeah, out of the box it's ready to deliver... it's an amp, it's a wireless receiver, it's two wireless transmitters, it's several microphones, it's a carrying case (since replaced by a backpack)... aside from the carrying case, each component alone is probably worth the cost of the whole system.

I've been wanting something similar but the only thing I've come across is the Countryman and that's a couple of hundred bucks--far more than I'm interested in paying. What brand and model is your headset. Did you get it from an individual or a dealer? I know dealers now are on eBay. |

According to my eBay history, the exact name of the item was:
Earset Microphone Wireless Headworn mic for Sennheiser Nothing matches this exactly, but a cursory glance gives the impression a similar item would be in the $50-80 range. Would still be worth it. |

Just received mine from Steven's Magic Emporium. They were quick and supplied some extras.
The manufacturer's directions say "Recharge the built-in rechargeable battery with the supplied AC cord for more than 8 hours before any use." I believe I will have AC available at almost all venues. That being the case, I am wondering if it might be better for me to remove the 12-v DC battery (it unplugs easily) and use the HappieAmp with just the built-in AC transformer, saving the battery as new until I need it? Once the battery is used, it will have to be recharged soon after use and the charge maintained or it will lose it's capacity to be recharged. Not starting with it in the amp would be counter to a literal interpretation of the directions, so I would appreciate input from someone who may have tried this option of 'keeping the battery new.' Thanks

I am pretty tech challenged when it comes to music. Could I hook up a little ipod to it? I'd use a remote to start and stop the ipod tracks.

There's an auxiliary input on the Happie Amp, so you can absolutely plug in an iPod. You can skip the remote thing by putting your tracks on an iPod shuffle, clipping it to a belt loop, and hooking it to the second wireless pack. The shuffle has physical buttons, so you just tap the button at your waist and can advance the tracks as needed.

I'd like my assistant to have the 2nd belt pack. So, could I hook the iPhone to the speaker/amp's AUX and use some remote to stop and start it? Where would I get such a remote?
Thanks for any help on this mode and on my question above about removing the battery to save it for later use versus needing to keep a charge in it now. -Ed

I bought this off of Jolly Roger(who is an official supplier of it), got great service, great price and it is a super little unit, you really can't believe the range and quality this unit gets, best purchase I have made in a loooong time!

I've been doing a lot more big shows lately (300-plus people) and considered upgrading to a full-on Fender Passport Pro and a separate wireless unit. The full upgrade would've cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $1200-$1500. Instead I was able to get a second Happie Amp on the same frequencies as my first, which has worked just awesome. It's not 100% as good as the Fender/separate wireless combo, but it's a third the price and twice as easy to transport and set up. More advice if you're planning to buy one: throw away the bag that comes with it and buy a backpack. The pack will fit the speaker and all the accessories, plus you can keep an extension cord (or two) in there. I got a $30 backpack from Target that fits both speakers, my handheld mic, two belt packs, two lapel mics, two headset mics, my flesh-colored headset mic, the two stand adapters (one came with each stand I ordered for my Happie Amp), two power cords and three extension cords. With room to spare. I can't say enough good things about the Happie Amp. |

Yup, for smallish venues it works like a champ.

I must also say that I've been happy with my Happie Amp. I have a larger system but needed to lighten my load for the smaller shows and this was the right solution. I did have a little trouble with a headset but Brian shipped me a replacement. I also pay for the lifetime warranty so I never have to worry about it. It's a good buy.

Im a little late on the draw but I just read thru this thread and I feel good! Its really nice when blood, sweat, and tears lead to Happie customers!!! Thank you all!! I always stand behind my products 100% above and beyond is the only way to go.
By the way, regarding the mp3 player and remote talk... you might want to "like" Happie Amp on facebook... there may be an announcement worth hearing in the next couple weeks... or month. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Happie-Amp......2?ref=ts |

Just bought mine. After a long weekend of shows my voice is shot. My last show (a few hours ago) was at an indoor kid center and I had such a hard time "being loud" since the venue was a huge warehouse with jumy things. I will cherish my Happie Amp for sure!

Matthew and I purchased a Happie Amp from Brian back in the fall, and we really thought it was not going to suit our needs, so we called Brian who was extremely nice, and issued us a return tag immediately and credited back our account.
After sending it back, we really regretted it and many many times found it would come in really handy for smaller venues. Well, last week, Matthew called Brian and apologized for sending it back and asked if we could order one again. Brian was very kind and more than happy to send us a new one..... After talking it over, Matthew and I decided we could really use two of them on the same frequency for larger venues and some outdoor things, so once again we called Brian again and asked him to order two.... All I can say is that Brian's Service standard is AWESOME, and he immediately shipped them to us and we are very pleased. I highly recommend the Happie Amp to anyone, and if you have any doubts or questions, Brian is so easy to work with! Just give him a call! In my opinion, Brian and the Happie Amp is a magicians best friend! ~Nanci |

Last night, I got to play with a Happie Amp for the first time - they're aren't that many of them in the UK... I have to say in all honesty I was totally underwhelmed by this system. I really expected more from it after reading all the posts on the Café and the other magic eating place, and I now worry that either I have extremely high standards when it comes to my sound, or there are a lot of people who don't know the difference between average sound and top quality sound. Yes, the Happie Amp is cheap, but I have to say - it sounds it too! Surely as entertainers we should strive to be as good as we can be? Well presented, smartly dressed, nice props, some people with backdrops too... but then to let it all down, because your sound is naff??
Here are a few points I noted about the Happie Amp. 1. Sound is extremely tinny - no fullness or body, and certainly lacked mid-range. 2. Microphone receiver is VHF??? Are we still in the 1990's?? Come on guys... VHF sucks big time. It's not even a diversity receiver. 3. Microphone (I only played with a hand held unit). Extremely plasticy and 'talked' lots when moving in the hand. Thought it was banging off my ring, removed ring but not much better. Also on the stage where I was working, there was a lot of 'drop out' on vocals too. 4. Only a small thing... but aethsteticaly, it looks like it was made in the 1980's On the plus side... It's very cheap, but as a friend of mine used to say 'Yugo's are cheap -but you wouldn't want to drive one' Isn't it worth saving up a bit, and actually buying a system that sounds great instead of just ok? My current 'small' system cost £900 ($1400), that's less than 5 shows.... FIVE!! This for a system that sounds AMAZING, sets up in less than a minute, is modern looking and that I am proud to use at 99% of my shows. I realise I'm gonna get backlash for this post from the Happie lovers out there, but I have tried to remain objective and after all this is only MY opinion. Gary http://www.garydunn.com |

John and I got a Happie Amp. We use it for "mud" shows...shows where we don't want to expose our other systems to dirt and the like. The first time out of the box we took it out onto a beach, a very hard place to do good sound and it did great. It's a tough little amp and for it's size it sounds great.
I've grown very found of our little Happie Amp. Morgan
