The number one cause of death from hang gliding is from people who used to do it frequently and were very proficient but then took some time off. Their death came from thinking they still were as good as they once were. I always keep this in mind when I am doing any stunt that I do not perform on a regular basis. I'm not blaming KC Cameron for anything. I'm just stating a statistic that I will never forget.

Calm down--I'm not attacking or blaming you, I'm just trying to get information. The more we know about what the circumstances were, the better chance we have of preventing a similar accident.
You mentioned kerosene and lamp oil; I'm asking which you were using when the accident happened. Curator's question about pay was made as a joke, I believe. Did you have a safety person/wet towel/fire extinguisher? Look, I set my hand on fire a couple months ago, and it was entirely my own carelessness, so I'm not sitting in judgement of anyone.

I heard a rumor about you and peanuts, Jim...
I think it's related to the old "I'm gonna show you something you've never seen before, and will never see again!" And of course, a bet.

Now, if your medical bill runs in the thousands (more realistic) than the risk was not worth the pay. When my nipple tore in '05 it was for the Philly Fringe show, I did for..... free. (peanuts would have been nice, but I did score some drink tickets). My flood damage is around $20,000. My flood insurace deductable is $750, therefore the risk IS worth more than the pay out. I know it's not a perfect analogy, but I think you get my point.

Is anyone really getting a guarantee that would cover their medical bills, if so I need to raise my fee for fire. In our profession risk will always out-way payment, otherwise we would unionize and be standing around eating donuts. Don't get me wrong there is something to be learned from incidents and we can all do our best to make the industry as safe as possible, but we wouldnt be performing "stunts" if there wasn't some inherent risk to it, instead we would be performing magic tricks, or illusion.

The point is that one should at least make a amount to warrant the risk..3 yards probably could be made w/out taking any risk, I would do a one time Blast for 300...Yet I wouldnt get a Tattoo unless I was paid at least 6 Figures, But Hey, that's just me...
