I think they'd be great at gigs, for lugging in items that you don't want to make extra trips to the car for. I could see lugging audio gear in that thing, except for the amp and speaker stand. Of course, you may want to order more than one, so that you could put your emergency kit in another one. At $49 US, I can think of more costly ways to lug gear. http://rufusroo.com/

I seem to remember Joel Bauer showing a jacket (that doesn't look quite so "dorky")he travels with that has multiple pockets including an inside pocket that holds a laptop computer. Just do a search for Joel Bauer packing....
