Hi Guys,
Not carrying a handkerchief I have never really used this effect but it occurred to me that with the right routine you could probably perform the effect on either your own or a spectator's t-shirt or shirt. Does any one know of any sources where this has been done or if there are any standard routines which could be adapted? I look forward to your response. Chris |

I would consider carrying one, as this is such a powerful effect. I like Ammar's routine. It is just killer with a see-through scarf .

When you can borrow a fine scarf this kind of effect becomes charming. Likewise when you can also borrow her spouse's wedding ring... the effect becomes even more so.

Are you talking about the Jennings Routine where a large chinese coin is produced at the end?
If so, I like that one as well. I was just working on it over the weekend, coincidentially.

David Roth has a fantastic dvd dealing with many scarf/silk and coin effects called:
"Ultimate Coin Magic Collection-Vol2" On it pertaining to silk/scarf routines: 'A Coin and sik Routine' - A Production and penetration routine. 'Coin through the ring' - Two versions taught. 'Tactile Coin through the Silk' - Spectator pushes a coin through a ordinary hankerchief. 'Novel Coin vanish' - A coin fairly folded in a hankerchief is instantly vanished. Two methods with the second happening while the spectator is holding the hankerchief. 'Buckley Bag Appearance' - A coin appears inside a folded hankerchief that was openly displayed. 'Rip-O' A coin that is twisted in the middle of a hankerchief is cut out with a knife, yet the hankerchief emerges unharmed. ' Tenkai's Magical Filtration' - A coin vanishes and then audibly reappears in the folded hankerchief held by the spectator. 'Copper/Silver Extraction' - very nice extraction routine. ' The Original Vanishing Coin' - one of the oldest and best coin vanishes. "Coin through Silk' - David Roths version of an effect made popular by Micheal Ammar. Coins pass mysteriously and visibly through a Sheer scarf. 'E. Brian MacCarthy Coin Vanish' - A brilliant and innovative vanish of even a large coin from a hankerchief (Two Handlings). The other half of the DvD pertains to Magic with the Okito Coin Box. This is one of the best DvD's I have ever purchased or have seen. I never thought hankerchief Magic could be this strong and effective.

You know, I always thought the idea of carrying a fine scarf a little bit out there. But if your carrying your coins in a dainty little purse anyway...

Nicholas Night has some very interesting variations and additions to Ammar routine on his lecture video. He fooled me and I knew the Ammar routine in advance.

The Ammar Routine is superb...the fact that the scarf is transparent and every phase is still seemingly fair is incredible. I use this routine when doing walkaround a lot surprisingly. It takes up very little pocket space which is nice, can be seen by a large crowd or a small one, and has a very nice ending in the spectator's hands. It is a very well constructed routine and can be found on Ammar's Easy to Master Money Miracles volume 3, in case anybody doesn't know yet.

Greetings, If you can find a copy of The Laid Back Lecture Notes, by Chris Power & Johnny Johnston from 1986, you will find a very nice and well worked out handling of the coins through silk by Chris. Those of you living in England will have an easier time of finding it since Chris & Johnny are from London & Bath if I remember correctly. It is well worth searching out.

Hi Guys
I shall try to check out some of these sources. Getting back to my original question, would any of the above work on a t-shirt/ shirt? The reason I am looking for this is to incorporate into a single coin flurry type routine and I am wanting to keep the whole thing impromptu. Not only that if you could get a spectator to hold a coin through the t-shirt as it penetrated it would add to the "magic happening to the spectator" Just a thought |

I've seen something similar with a coat, preferably leather or other valuable...kind of a torn and restored coat where a jumbo coin visibly penetrates the coat.....leaving a hole? Then the coat is shown to be whole(!)

Where are some places to find silks to use like in Ammar's video? Some hankies I've seen are either too thick and hard to manipulate, or too thin that you see-through.
And for borrowing clothing, I think bandana and women's scarf work and you'll be able to find more easily than hankies. |

I do not see why you could not borrow the spectators shirt. If they are in good shape they would probably be more than willing to take their shirt off. And if you are working for a group of ladies...well I better not go there, but lets just say it would be a darn good effect!

Try Through a handkerchief, method (b), from Bobo. This is very nice. Good with a tea towel too.
If a handkerchief is used, make sure that it's a large one. That way, you can repeat the effect, and on the second performance you can ditch the coin in a breast pocket. The size of the tea towel or large handkerchief ensures that your right hand will come far enough back to reach the pocket. On the first performance, ensure that the right hand goes to the correct position for ditching. That way, you know that you'll be ok to ditch on the second performance. The idea of ditching the coin in the breast pocket in this effect is, I believe, my own idea. It’s one of those effects that every time I perform it, I expect to get caught. But I’ve never been caught yet. It’s so easy to do, that it seems that the spectators must catch me. Dave

Sawa has a routine called "Bad Tailor" in his book (the one put out by Kaufman). In that routine he puts coins in his pocket and then he removes them through the material of his pants. You may be able to adapt some of the basic ideas of this to a spectator's shirt pocket or his t-shirt.
