After I bought my first diary effect (Fortune teller's book of days) I searched for the holy grail in diary methods. I found one that came very close, but wasn't much to my liking.

Now after playing with methods, I finally found my very own method. I mix and played with several methods but now I have my very own method (yes, I'm like a dad announcing his son).

When it is played, it should answer to these conditions (which in my eyes, makes the perfect diary effect):

1. only one diary is used
2. the diary is on the table at the start of the effect
3. the date is named
4. a single deck of cards is brought out
5. the spectator deals the cards one by one, stopping whenever he likes
6. the card arrived at is the card at his or her's birthday.
7. the date can't be forced in any way.
8. it uses a normal non-gaffed, non stacked deck (So the spectator can handle the cards).
9. the magician never opens the diary.
10. The diary is fully examinable.

I can easily (almost instantly adapt this to tarot cards (that's why I'm aging a book).

Would you guys be interested if I ever marketed this effect?

Is there an alternative to this bit?

Some people prefer not to mix playing cards with mentalism effects. That is why I ask.

You could use tarot cards or for that matter zenner cards if you prefer.

The effect sounds, fooling, yet not as clean as other diary effects......see Mr. Cassidys work.

@ Billy: I don't like Chronologue. The spectator does most of the work in this one, it should play out as a coincidence effect, and that's what chronologue is not, but chronologue isn't that clean. Not every prop is in play at the start of the effect, and I don't like that.

Cirrus,

I understand your points, cirrus...however, I meant clean as in that the spectators don't have to count cards. Read clean as direct, that's what I meant. When someone counts down cards there is moments where tempo can become and issue and the effect starts to drag. Sure, its the performers duty to make those moments entertaining, but I like the directness of chronologue so so sooo much. Plus, the props are fun!

I said deal down cards not count, the deal builds the pressure, so you can refer to them having done everything. That's what I like in cleanness.

Cirrus,

I cant disagree that I am so stumped in regards to the effect.......it seems impossible, but to a layperson, so does simple things that don't have a lot of steps. I am very interested in the effect (as I am a cardman first and foremost).

It should play as open prediction and as a stop trick.

Hang in there Cirrus. Putting out a new product takes a lot of guts these days. You open your heart and soul up to so many out there.

I was just kidding about grandma. Like I found her diary as a kid and us being related and all. Smile

Best
