Looks great and I saw the show - I'm curious as to the complexity of making the gimmick and the use of a dedicated shoe. Would the "Maxwell Smart" shoe work? Smile

Congrats and good luck to Richard. I felt the performance itself on P&T was a little convoluted but overall quite a fooler.

This is the effect that fooled Penn & Teller..

Please note construction is required and you will need to gimmick your shoe to perform Confab-Shoe-Lation

Richard has taken the confabulation plot to new heights of impossibility with their shoe reveal!

Richard has been performing Confab-Shoe-Lation in his stand-up act for well over a year and then decided it would be the ideal effect to fool Penn & Teller on national TV.

Effect

Imagine your spectators can name any 3 items and you have predicted them correctly in a note that you have kept safe in your shoe from the beginning of the show.

On this DVD Richard Bellars and Tom Swift (who is the co-creator of the effect) take you step by step through every aspect of the effect, including how to create the gimmick with your own shoe.

Vegas Vacation

This is the routine Richard Bellars and Peter Nardi devised for Richard’s corporate shows. It’s a great 3 phase routine using an imaginary trip to Vegas as the premise. After your spectators have played 3 popular casino games you reveal your prediction from your shoe. The prediction takes the form of a bill with all the scores written on the back.

You can do any Confabulation routine without an assistant (the method isn't as clean that way, of course), but my assumption after watching the televised clip is that he had an assistant.

Will this ruin the shoe to the point that it can only be worn to do this trick or what?

I'm curious about this as well. Paul from Hocus Pocus said these should be in any day. I asked him several questions about it, but he's in the dark, too. He'll be sending me a review copy and I'll get it up on my "Trick Talk" blog at Hocus Pocus as soon as I can. It involves gimmicking your shoe and beyond that, we're all in the dark. I'm looking forward to this.

I really thought the idea of the case holding only a pair of rubber gloves was very convoluted. Seemed a bit desperate.

This is Correct , as Lot of the P&T Talk was edited out as Teller thought a N*** W***** was used but Penn said the writing was too neat, Richard had to confirm that he did not write the prediction, while I understand a version on the DVD is shown without an assistant this was not the version that fooled P&T

This has been answered :

Question: after the construction with the shoe, can it still be worn as an everyday shoe?
Answer: No it could be worn for performance but I would not recomend wearing it to walk around in

When I watched the performance I really liked it and think that it's a clever idea.

Then I asked myself honestly: Where would I perform this? To do it that clean you really need an assistant. I doubt that the non-assistant version is that clean. Plus, you probably need a table with a wide leg on stage in order to cover the load and for sure need to stand infront of a table when you perform in restaurants, weddings etc.

Would I want to put a prediction in a shoe and have the spectator pull it out, even with latex gloves? Not really...especially not in a restaurant.

If you really need an assistant to pull of a great, super clean prediction then I'd rather do it with a CD.

My two cents.

The whole point of the case is to pull focus (and tit worked). I loved the routine - each element played it's part and he nailed them. Kudos to Richard.

Pull Focus? That's a camerassistants job when shooting a movie. Smile Nice wording for misdirection thou or as Tommy wonder put it: Attention Direction

Any more comments from those who own this?

Worker or too impractical for real world use?
