Hello Mr. Wilson,
Among magicians, you are quite well known for putting out excellent material on DVDs such as Off The Cuff, In Action, and On The Spot just to name a few. Which product are you most proud of (it does not have to be one of the few that I've listed) and why? Which material do you find yourself using in your professional work? I look forward to reading your response, Jordan |

Hello Jordan,
Which product am I most proud of? Grrrrrrrrrr. That's a tough question. Not because I think that they're all great, but because I like them all for various reasons. For example, my first foray into the video world was Double Take (1995). I was flabbergasted that no one else beat me to market with a compendium and course of instruction on the double lift. Vernon called it the most vital move in card magic. He also said that it was the hardest move in card magic TO DO NATURALLY. At the risk of sounding presumptuous, most magicians could use some help in this department. : ) Card Stunts (1998) is another favorite as it was a culmination of routines filmed at The Magic Castle that I had gathered and developed over a 20-year period and it was great to finally commit it to publication. It's some of the material that I used to lose at FISM twice. : ) On the Spot (2001) FAR exceeded my expectations by selling multiple 10's of thousands. It was just me hanging out in a bar or on the street and putting myself on the spot by borrowing or finding most of the "props" in these indigenous surroundings. I think the video did well because we always find ourselves in these impromptu situations and don't want to be stuck with an array of bad excuses. Like: Sorry, I don't have anything on me. Or, I left my talent in my other jacket. Or, even worse, has anyone seen my Invisible Deck? Now that it's way too late in looking like a free advertisement, my latest effect, Exact Change, has been jealously guarded in my pocket for about 6 years now. If I could do only one routine to COMPLETELY baffle and blow an audience's mind, it would be this or Hundy 500. Wow, these shameless plugs are taking on a life of their own! : ) |

Hi Mr. Wilson,
I absolutely love your products - On the Spot may be my favorite - and I know there is a ton of material that you can choose from when performing. My question is, what routines do you find yourself doing more than any other? Thanks for participating and I look forward to more discussions here! Adam |

Which material do I use most? Wow, another tough question, especially since I haven't done as much close-up work in the last 12 years as I do a stage show.
From an impromptu standpoint, the effects that I seem to do most regularly are: Recap, Open Palm Coins Across (also known as 3/4 Across), Coin in Watch, Glossy Finish, and a Questionable Trick. Also, Head Trip (a version of Slydini's Paper Balls Over the Head) is not just another "throw away." From Card Stunts: I always use Joke in the Box with a "new" ending of the entire deck going to the box at the end! There's also The Boomerang Card, G-Force, Reset with a Hook and Boxspring. Wait a minute, I think I just named the entire video! : ) From Pyrotechnic Pasteboards, I think the best effect is Point Blank, Straight A's and Lethal Fours. In fact, Point Blank, some people say, could have been a one-trick DVD. Double Take: Weighted Aces is amazingly simple and really potent. Hope that's enough for now as I'm getting a bit bored talking about myself. Maybe I should ask you folks if there's any of my work that you like and use. Or, simply like to watch but never use. Cheers for now . . . |

I would have to say Recap is my #1 favortie trick to do any time any where. I learned this trick from you I think about 15 years ago at my very first lecture in Russ Peaks living room.
I bought your fisrt video then, and now buy anything and everything you put out because I have never gone wrong buying magic you put out. Double Take was my 2nd video and now I got it on DVD and just watched it the other day again. The 4 card trick is one of the card tricks I do if someone asks me to do a trick and hands me a deck. I love doing Kiss Off also. But Recap is a trick I prety much do daily. Looking forward to seeing you here this week. Thanks for stopping by. Shawn Durham |

I use your "Exact Change" all the time with the iPhone App "Loose Change Magic". They are perfect together, a match made in heaven with a great set-up as well as clean-up. Love it! Thanks!

Hello Mr. Wilson,
I'm very happy to see you here at "The Magic Café" as a Guest of Honor. To answers your latest question on this thread, the first video I bought was "Ring-Leader". I love this routine. It's like playing jazz. Oh didn't someone else stated that about another well known routine...? Anyway, after that, I felt in love with your work and got "On the Spot" and it blew me away. I couldn't believe how great it can be to do magic with simple and so many borrowed objects. The last one I got was Foreign Affaire, which gets great responds from the audience. I made my own bill adapted for Europe. Since Card Magic isn't my horse to beat, I didn't get any of your great looking Card DVD's like "Pyrotechnic Pastboards", "Double Take" and "Card Stunts". I think I'm not ready for them. Thanks for being here at "The Magic Café". Magical greetings from France. Oliver. |

Hello Mr. Wilson,
I guess it's my turn to answer your question . Personally, I enjoy your Recap routine from the On The Spot DVD. Also, I love your 3/4 across from the same set, as it is all pure sleight of hand and impromptu. I've bought Ring Leader and Card Stunts as well. I think that out of the material that I've bought, I enjoyed Card Stunts the most. Just watching the performance section of this DVD was easily worth the price of the DVD. I hope you enjoy your stay here at the Magic Café! -Jordan |

I've told you this personally but again Thank You it was actually your double take DVD that got me into magic - althogh my focus and style has advanced and changed tremendously - When I perform magic it's almost always with variations of your material along aide that of Danny G and Chad.
Re-cap, Coin under watch, Chip on shoulder, thru hand, Card to pocket Freakey (until it got too worn - I was using it that much), Specially I guess it's your approach to misdirection and doing the dirty under their noses but perfectly time and on the off beat which I love and have learnt from

I guess also the interactivity of your magic goes beyond the normal - "pick a card - then sit back and do
Nothing as it goes through a series of transformations" style - yours is more involved and engaging literally Any thoughts on that style or maintaining and creating and adapting ideas to that interactive approach

I too enjoy performing re-cap as well as several of your other effects.
The one that always suprises me with the reaction it gets is that silly one with the wedding ring (and hidden coin)S. When I watched the dvd I thought it was just a couple of funny gags. Especially the jumping ring at the start I always expect it to just get a laugh and I'll look up and see a dropped jaw. |

Yes, Carl Andrew's version of Exact Change is an absolute KILLER. If you have an iPhone, I highly recommend his app. The link is above.
It's a combination of technology and sleight of hand that completely precludes ANY possibility of explanation! Did I say KILLER? : ) |

BTW, You all don't know how lucky you are Greg is even on the Café as he is such a computer neophoite. Actually I take that back as it is insulting to computer neophytes. He spends so much time at the Genius bar of the Apple Store, all the employees know him by name. He has an iPhone and only uses it to make phone calls. We worked on the new "True Lies" amazing lie detector app, it was his idea, and he doesn't know how to install it on his iPhone. In fact now I am wondering if it is even really him on this board
Seriously, glad to see him on the Café especially because I know first hand how difficult this must be for him Welcome, Carl http://www.mojosoftwareonline.com |

Where else but on the Café can I read posts in the same forum from 2 of my absolute all time favorite magicians: Greg and Carl.
Thank You Steve Brooks!

There's a funny post on one of the Freakey topics: Some one comes on and posts a message FOR Greg and Chad Long retorts back;
Greg has people to do this. I want people.

Talked to Chad yesterday on the phone and he makes me LOL in everything he does -- personally and professionally.
I can just look at him and laugh. But that's just the way he dresses! |

I have everything you put out Greg, and I love it all. I think "Kiss Off" is worth mentioning, what a killer chop cup routine.

Recently, I've been playing around with some of the routines from On the Spot, and I decided to learn the learn Recap. For me, the beauty of the routine is in the simplicity of it. The only hard sleight (for me) from this routine is the strike vanish, but it only took me about a week to perfect it. I've shown this effect to numerous people over the past week, and everybody is FLOORED during the routine (especially the bit with the watch). I must say that I have gotten better reactions from this effect than I have from Dai Vernon's Triumph, which is an incredibly strong card effect. If you have strayed away from learning Recap, do yourself a favor and learn it... NOW .
Also, I hope I'm not sounding like an advertisement. Recap is just one of those routines that deserves to be talked about and learned by all hobbyists and professionals alike. Just my two cents, Jordan |
