Hey everyone!
So, how many of your do an international 3-fly? Which version do you do? I have the video for Michael Afshin's dream fly but I am not sure if I wanna get the coins made. Anyone do this version? What is it about magicians that we LOVE 3 fly? The international plot brings depth to the routine, I'm just curious as to who does it and which versions. Thanks for all your responses, I know we beat this 3fly/international 3fly topic to death (buts its fun isn't it?). -Ben |

?? you mean a VCA using distinct coins ( for example: where you use CSB set with an e] and have the purse left in your hand when the last coin goes) yeah. If you can routine the item so it goes after a few other tricks using those coins - you can even use Reed's coin set to great effect as they will be totally sure about what the coins are.
Do what works for you - and keep performing for people till you find what's right for you Best wishes in your explorations, Jon PS - I spent a long time just trying stuff to get a one coin jump to work. IMHO it's no good trying to rush finding what works for you when you do magic for your audiences.

Hey jonathon, thanks for the input. Yea I know of reeds slipstream st if that's what you mean, not bad there is a routine on palms of steel he uses this set. I have the DVD of Michael afshins international three fly, just wondering if anyone does it. I also have played around with reed's routine with a Chinatown half and c/s coin.
I once spoke to a magician about it and he mentioned international three fly is not necessary for specs--in their eyes it's pretty much the same as a regular three fly or VCA. but magicians love the plot! Jon, where can I find your original VCA? Dave thanks for the heads up! I have your Cerberus DVD but the gimmick is currently out of my price range, may do the routine with a CSB. that other routine sounds great! Get it in print! I also was thinking of three stylin' by lee Asher, but I feel poker chips are kinda strange to use. Anyone use poker chips with good reactions from specs? I feel the "poker" craze is somewhat over. Unless your in Vegas or AC. I appreciate all your comments! -Ben |

You can find the article in the September 2006 issue of Genii Magazine.
I have not read that anyone's been questioned or busted when using Asher's Three Stylin - so that might be a quick start for you. Using coins for that approach is sensible and after you get the item down with the props supplied you can try it yourself. Going the next step and using gaffs of the c/s type and using an HPC move to table the coins after the fact one at a time (fingertips version of Latta's classic style handling from CoinMagic using his HPC) is another direction you may wish to explore. Rannie's version (the one that I particularly like [b]and you have to ask him for directly and in private[/v] but you can see the video on youtube) also works as "international". Have fun, Jon

Karl Hein has a nice one in his lecture notes. Uses dollar sized CSB. Jeremy Pei's DVD has a couple of nice variations using half dollar sized CSB.

Nathan Kranson has a nice one, all you need is a copper silver with shell, and a copper coin and brass coin, I have one in dollar size works great and is simply.

I have a set of Mark Mason coins he made for me (Morgans), but I don't do his routine as outlined, you have to find a routine and moves that work for you, but the coins
themselves are awesome and very well made. |

Hi there! It's Vlad again making his way into the coin fora with no little trepidation. Don't edge grip me please?
I do a 3Fly based on splunging stuff together from Daryl, Kenner, and Curtis Kam and I get great reactions. Even Ben Salinas dug it! What I don't understand is whether using three different coins adds at all to the effect. It's a serious question really folks and I am wanting to get some eddykayshun. Ahimsa, Vlad PS: Ben, if you are reading this, remember how John B. could NOT get that flip in the air shuttle pass? |

I'm with Vlad on this, don't quite see the the need of the 3 different coins, it's already deemed a bit more puzzling than magical. This other "international" element seems to beg more toward any confusion than not, in my humble opinion. Though I've seen the effect done, I wasn't blown away by it. Didn't think the different coins did anything for the basic effect but that's just me.
Hey V, I also put together a 3Fly made of this & that and it's playing pretty darn well. http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......m=217&16

Marion, I'm with you on this. It's a marvelous effect as is. Making the spectator work "too" hard keeping track of coins seems too much. I like Latta's approach.

I suspect it is because it makes it a little more difficult for the more analytical spectators to suss out the method. When you use all the same coins many spectators immediately suspect that you are using an extra coin. When you are using three different style coins the spectator can't make that same assumption; one extra coin wouldn’t work obviously. Personally I don’t think it makes much of a difference, but that is the only reason I can think of.

The gaff set shown on this DVD is a ridiculous custom set, and the routine is not that exciting (as performed by Michael Afshin).
Toyosane Sanada has an excellent International Three Fly that uses a standard CSB set. It is on his DVD: http://www.murphysmagic.com/Product.aspx?id=42966 (International Three Fly is NOT shown on the demo video) |
