The reason I like his is that it does not use a reel.
I have performed Spooked for years and have found I can do it about 3 or 4 times and it breaks. To reset you need another reel as to do it on the night is a pain. With this I have practised loads and have not broken it once. I assume because its not all under tension so it stands up better. also you can set a few up and reset with minimal cost and time rather than have spare reels in your case. The "reel" plus over this is that its in the hands, you can do it on a table but in the hands is just great. I've only done it live twice in the hands and the reaction has been brilliant. To repeat there is no need to use a reel so this is just about the cheapest and most impressive haunted deck I have seen. I have criticised the dvd production and content but the effect is fantastic and with a little thought you can use his in other ways than that show. If you want a commercial haunted deck buy this (I should be on commission).

Mark, are you familiar with The Cloak? I'm thinking the hook up is the same, the difference being one is elastic IT & one is regular IT.
I'm trying to figure out the advantage of one over the other. Thanks, Mike |

Not exactly sure what I expected this to be, but disappointed with it's "Brand New Concept"

I don't know the Cloak so I can only comment that this is good and works.
I will try it with elastic and see if it works, it may give more freedom of movement. I to am lost with the new concept, but never the less its taught me something I will use so I'm happy.

Its a pity that ......if....... this turns out to be another IT hook up effect. I love loops and thread but you always have that what if it breaks point!
I know peter eggink has this coming out soon and has stumped me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqzxmATuQ0w says no loops or thread work makes you ponder....... |

It looks like I'll be getting that one as well. I love haunted decks, to date Chill is the best I have (out of the 4 I have).
The Cloak does look similar but a lot of those animations scream elastic thread to me they are just too jerky. The performance handling is also very good on Chill so even though in my opinion its expensive for the small bit of information that relevant to making it work, the whole package gives you a really strong workable effect.

I have now tried this out at a gig wearing a jacket and as far as being pracical for the working performer this is one of the worst effects I have purchased. I think to say this is a totally new concept is very misleading, at best it is an adaptation of many existing methods but is nowhere near as good. This may be ok to perform for your mates down the pub but that's about it.I am really struggling to say anything good about this product as already mentioned the dvd quality is very poor compared to what we are used to with modern day dvd's. I don't like writing negative reviews in fact I think this is the first time I have done it but I feel very let down by this product. Do yourself a favour and save your money.

To be fair, many of the WMS DVDs are of, at best, average production values.. However, what really matters is the material, the teaching etc. (in other words I would much rather average production values with a great, well taught effect or effects)
I picked this up at LADS but won't be using it as I often wear a white shirt during daytime gigs (weddings etc). Having not actually performance tested this, I can't really offer a constructive opinion, one way or another. I think Andi Gladwin picked one up (he was talking about it), I would be interested in his opinion. Charlie |

Really sounds like a ripp-off to me. 50 bucks for an IT hook-up selling as entire new concept.

I was at the LADS convention last week when a few people bought this after Tom performed it out on the floor in the vendors area.
Tom then took the time and trouble to take these people out to a back room and run thru the set up and performance and answered numerous questions. All in all he was there for around 20 minutes helping and advising people on this effect. That is class! Well done Tom, it really was a nice touch and genuinely appreciated by all. Let me tell you guys, this effect rocks! When the playing card spins out of the deck the reactions are right up there! Is it easy to do? - the answer is a great big yes! I have some IT experience so no issues. The friend I was with was one of the people who bought it. He has never used IT in his life - never! He was performing this and raving about it to me the very next day. As mentioned previously there is no reel involved so all of the problems, trouble, tangles and hassle (and as we know there is lots!) associated with a reel dissapear. A clever hook up and set up makes this effect easy to perform. I give it a 9/10.
We are inclined to believe those whom we do not know because they have not yet deceived us...

Rowland, did you put one end in your jacket pocket as I mentioned or work in a jacket as the set up shown.
If you did it as shown you no doubt will have had trouble in a jacket, you also want to avoid the side with buttons on and use the other side. I can think of plenty of bad things to say about this with regard to production values, lack of in depth teaching for anything other than a dark shirt and no jacket etc, but in all this is very good and a great effect let down by all of this. If you don't have much experience this may leave you stuck with something you won't use, but if like me you have been using these materials for a while you will overcome the problems yourself, for the price it should have covered all this off on the DVD which would have stopped any complaints about this not being workable etc.

With regard to sticking I had trouble but Tom does show the best way on the DVD.
The best way is not to use your finger and press but to trap it and press from the other side if that makes sense to you.

Hi Mark thanks for the reply, I know what you mean and I do it that way but it still just pulls off even with the slightest tension, but thanks anyway.

Sorry I've just remembered I had the same problem and then used the Ammar wax I have for card on ceiling which is much better.
Normal wax which I suspect is supplied does not stay soft and won't stick easily, its another failing of this package because it makes not mention of it and you only get a tiny bit with it. Mine came with an extra lump of black stuff, I have no idea what it is or what its for, no mention on the DVD!
