My sidekick wanted me to post this. I hope he is not going to ask for a raise now.

Ducky O'Neil is a Turner figure circa about early 40's. I began using him third hand in 1954. We have had a lot of mileage over the years. I am thankful to Valentine Vox for his hosting the Las Vegas convention in '97. This had me ratchet up my pursuit after years of disability and isolation ala, boy in the bubble living as a necessity. I hope you enjoy.

Cute bit and I really like Ducky! Doesn't look like every other Turner figure I've seen. Nice job!

Great job Dr. Solar. Really neat trailer you have there. It completes the "medicine show" look quite nicely.

Doc don't forget he is coming to Ventriloquist Central Collection some day LOL. By the way folks that long nose on Ducky was at extra cost from John Turner. He did offer it but it is a rare option which you just do not see.

Yes, Dan is right. I was told by the second owner that it cost a whole $30 extra at the time and I was to be extremely careful of it over the years he loaned him to me. $30 bucks was a heck of a lot back then. He had paid $150 for Ducky second hand. Supposedly a "world famous clown, NEMO THE CLOWN, was the original owner. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Doc

I've long been impressed by your medicine show wagon. Ducky certainly has an interesting history. I don't know anything about Nemo the Clown, but he was probably a vaudevillian, given the era. There wasn't really a local children's entertainment market in those days, and he wouldn't have used a figure in a circus, he'd never have been heard.

What is the standing on video during a public event? Sign needed or not?
Thanks, Doc

I'm not a lawyer Doc - but happy to tell you what I've done. Not saying its right, but I haven't gotten into any trouble - yet.
When taping my performance for review only, nothing is said because the video will never be made public. In those cases, I usually am in tight enough that the audience isn't in the shot anyway. If you get material that is usable - you are the only one in the shot, so no foul. I use a sign IF the audience or a volunteer will be shown. At the start, I (or the MC) will also make an announcement saying the program is being video taped and if anyone objects to being a part of the taping they should move to the back or not volunteer. Most people enjoy being a part of something and have no problem with it. Still, you've got to cover the bases. If using a child, always make certain the parents provide permission for you to use a clip that may include their image. Tom |

You look so great in character! I have to laugh at myself that I didn't recognize you at the ConVENTion. And in your clip, you clearly enchanted that young lady. Bob |

Hey Doc,
You do "blend" in quite well when out of charactor. I still get a chuckle out of the way I met you at VHC. You approached me and asked if I had the "Submit Reply" bottons. I almost said that they were only for specific people, but as I looked closer I did a double take, because your name tag did not say "Dr. Solar", but there was something about your face. . . I think you got a laugh out of it too. Steve http://www.thedummyshoppe.com |

Nice meeting you there Steve. It is certainly nice to be able to put a face on associations we are making on the grapevine. I'm glad I finally got my avatar posted, that helps. I hope to see more "Submit Reply" buttons next year. How many had you given out there?
Doc

Ha! You made me look to see if I had commented!
And I must have clicked on the link since I commented on what I saw. And I went back again after your one post to hit the "like" thing. But as far as so few comments for so many views, that's normal for forums, sometimes I wish they wouldn't even show that number.

Doc. It was around 30. Keep yours, I'm not sure what we will do next year. Tom said they cost him an arm and a leg this year. We might have to charge a dollar or two to defray the expense next year.

I went over to the ConVENTion site to see if I could find you and Ducky in the group photo. I did. But, yes, out of costume you aren't as easy to spot.
