A friend of mine had a skeleton like that in the late 60s, Dave Kornelly and I believe he said it was an old Vaudeville idea. Fun.

The backward show is a great idea but where to do it? and to whom?

My backwards show would start with me taking candy away from all the kids.

Maybe the client will respond in kind, and ask you for your fee.

Wow thanks Tommy! Yes, my kids show would make Thurston proud, but it fills a long bed pickup.

Hey I saw your new Christmas Wand, this looks really great, I'm thinking of adding that in right before the Water Torture Cell and Vanishing Stagecoach. Smile

Best, Bill

Nice box Bill I love the cart design as well. to cover the one side. Did you make that box yourself or have a builder make it?

Great way to start a show!

Hi Kevin,

I am trying to make my own equipment where possible.

Yes, that cart design is very helpful! The angles are quite good.

You must have a hidden area to roll out from, that is a limitation for some shows.

If there is room I like to come out and cut a few donuts to show all sides of the box, this space was too tight for that.

The box can be filled with stuff, and the cart acts as a dolly for other pieces of equipment, so it's not really that impractical.

With a few minutes of practice you can produce the Birthday child in their own show, although I don't like the exposure.

Just have to say, Tommy James stuff is 110%! Can't wait to get the new wand! His measle wand IS a show! I finally stop after 5 minutes of LOUD laughs because I am tired. The kids want MORE!!

Also, sure, VB is simple but not easy. You MUST sell it and the kids or adults have always loved it in my shows. I don't always perform it but when I do I ALWAYS get a great reaction.

Or should I recycle elements of my regular show?

it's funny but if a prop is a different color or size as the same prop - kids don't remember the first one.

Example: I used to carry two sets of linking rings and IF the kids called-out "We already saw that one" I'd ask 'OH... you've seen the 8 inch rings?" They 'Yes" Me "But did you see the 10 inch rings?" Then I exchanged the rings and proceeded. I did the same thing with a red and blue Die Box. I also have 4 different choppers / swords and because the props look different the show looks different - forget about the fact that it's basically the same routine.

On a funnier (kinda) note: I knew a magician who switched the first three tricks with the last three tricks and advertised "Two Different Shows". He should have switched the entire first half with the second half, to make that claim credible!!!!

Let's see who's buying that. All in favour...

But to answer your question seriously, go get some new stuff that works like the old stuff but looks different.

This gave me an idea...

Has anyone ever done a BACKWARDS show? You walk out and do your closer and do a full show backwards ending the set by thanking the audience and introducing yourself? Might be a fun experiment to see how it plays...?

I LOVE the backward show idea!!! FUNNY!!!!

Hi Bill I know the prop pretty well I was just wondering if you built it yourself? Also where did you get the cart?

I agree it was a great plcae for making the child appear othe places in the house it might not work so well

Liked that! I'm not sure I'd want to carry that around but it is a great opener. Did you use anyone's plans or was it your own design?

Hi Mark,

This was my design. I ruined a prototype before figuring it out, but it's not that hard.

There are some nice features, like the air vent on the lid. Keeps kids conscious longer. Smile

If anyone wants dimensions or pictures just PM me, or maybe I can put them in the secret session.

Best

Hi Bill,

Your idea to make the kid appear out of the box is great. I wonder how you get to manage that the kid won't say a word. ^^ Your prop is very nice build and it looks awesome, but...

I think you should add the second trunk, to make a double tip over box. This will give you a better angle view, making the illusion perfect.

Great work anyway. Congratulations !!!

Oliver.

Hi Oliver, that cart is my idea for the angle problem. The height of the cart lets me use my body on one side, and the handle protects the other side. This version can't be done surrounded, but people behind the stage don't see much magic with a double trunk either.
