It has been awhile since I posted anything so thought it was time to ask this question. Anyone that has done or still does this little effect my question is have you ever just made your own can? I know the trick is really cheap but just wondered if anyone found a good can to use instead of buying the trick. I mean it is a very simple effect and the "Do No Remove" card can be done on the computer. Am I going around copyrights or what? I have no problem buying the trick again as I used to use it in my kids show years ago. Any ideas or comments will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you Steven |

Have not done the trick in a LONG time but I see no reason you can not make one for yourself!
I would look around BJs or Costco for a good can as they will have some larger ones that might be better to use most cans today have safty rims on them already. good luck with it sam ps if you make the do not remove card simply buy some easy do it yourself laminate or take it to staples and pay a buck to have them do it.

Personally, I'd buy the prop ready-made, it's pretty cheap, and still available as far as I know. It's a great trick, but I always found it tiresome to prepare the egg. I'd love to come up with a comedy version where you can really use an unprepared egg...which would eventually make a mess somewhere....not quite sure how it would play out though.....egg is a horribly messy product to clean up!
Or, can someone tell me how to prep the eggs quickly? I guess with practise, you might be able to do this in a few seconds? Doug |

Thanks Sam for the places and Potty I am getting rid of the egg and using the trick with a milk pitcher instead, I just hope it works right. I have seen a number of routines on the trick and I used to do the egg but got tired of using the egg part. Time consuming and costly even if eggs are cheap. I am going to place the can on the childs head, after they are dressed up for the effect and pour the milk in the can instead of cracking the egg. I can see it all in my mind and just hope it works out in person. Thanks for the ideas and comments please keep them coming.
Thanks Steven |

Hi Steve...
I was thinking of resurrecting this gem as well in my family shows. I picked up the Milk Wonder Perfect glass to use as a milk pitcher, and I love it. I was thinking about dropping the egg (not literally) from the routine. What else do you "put" into the can besides the "milk"? Ken |

Ali Bongo's Blooming Stooge is similar but the kid winds up with flowers on his head (the bloomin' stooge line makes no sense here in the US) but it is still funny looking doing away with the egg.
Years ago I was going to make a milk shake for the kid and used a snake foo can with the same gags but we produced a milk snake instead of a milk shake. At that time I used a milk glass and made a chocolate syrup thing that had the syrup look like it was streaming out. It got a good laugh. I don't know if the snake foo can is still on the market. I hope that gives you another idea. Regards, Jef

I used milk instead of an egg for the longest time as well and it works fine. actually I like it a bit better as you can leak some of the milk and really get them thinking you poured milk in the can.
have fun sam

I'm a milk in Egg Can guy too! I have used it with The Jug as well as some other milk glasses/pitchers. I also used to use it with the Foo Snake Can like Jef mentioned. I don't believe those are still being made. I know I bought a second one to have as a backup, and I am thinking I did it because they got impossible to find. I still have it boxed away somewhere.

Hi Doug,
I'm not sure why preparing the eggs takes too long. I find that I can prepare a dozen eggs in about 10 minutes with an ice pick over a sink. I then leave them overnight to dry out and put them back in the carton in the morning. I am then good for 12 shows. One tip I discovered is not to be overly concerned with the size of the holes being punctured in the eggs while preparing them. With handling they never show anyway. Also, while making the first hole, I scramble the egg with the ice pick before turning it over to make the second hole. |

Man there are a lot of great comments and ideas here. Gets my mind finally working.
Sam I was only going to pour the milk in and had not really thought about anything else in it, got any ideas? I like the idea of dribbling a little milk out also. I plan to do a build up to the actual trick. I mean the child or adult will be dressed up and lots of by-play. Play a lot of it up for the comedy of it. I now am trying to think what to produce from the can. I like the "blooming Stooge" idea used by Ali Bongo. Now just have to come up with something else other than the candy or silks that are used a lot. Thanks Steven |

Potty- I wish I could find the site I'm thinking of. The proprietor is a member of the Café. He sells a version of the routine which uses a regular egg. You can get it from the fridge of the birthday kid's house if you want. The great thing is that the kids can actually see you crack the egg and put all the gloopy mess into the mixing container before you pour it into the can on the volunteer's head. Toss the shell in, too! Add other ingredients!
I don't think I'm giving too much away if I say that it involves the use of a foo mug. As I recall, the cost of the whole routine was only a little more than the cost of a foo mug alone and it came with all the props, including the mug. Dang, does anyone know that site? I had to switch computers since I last saw it and I don't have my old bookmarks. -Patrick |

I was going to say a foo can would work but sounds like that has already been come up with. Another thought however would be to use a can a bit wider than the glass. This would enable a spacial gap to encompass a sponge to soak up the egg or milk. This is a cheap alternative to the other versions. Being much like the milk to silk, or water to ice.

Blimey, I never read those posts....the Foo Mug sounds FAB! Just ordered one, thanks to Mr Woolery a year and a half too late!
Even though it might be possible to blow 12 eggs in 10 minutes, I can't imagine being bothered to do this regularly. You know that time, when you have a bunch of shows coming up, and you realise you're out of prepped eggs? But you have friends coming over, you don't have any eggs, etc. Pre-show work like that isn't realistic for most busy performers, unless they're super-organised. And anyway, I want to be able to break the egg into the mug, and show it's real. This makes the effect an obvious follow-up to "silk to egg", which itself is a natural follow-up to the egg bag routine. J.G.The Magnificent, thanks so much for bringing this thread back up. You've made me a very happy pirate today! :dancing: |

I love this trick. I always use a real egg with a foo mug. I keep everything in the box, and say that I just recieved it that morning. I get an adult for the effect and a kid to read me the directions. The kids always think the egg is fake until I crack it into the mug. I will put a shower cap and baby bib on the adult. I replace the do not remove card with a paper plate. When the instuctions end, I have a book that I tell the kids I purchased just in case with has the title "All abot eggs" which when my helper opens it, they pull out a rubber chicken with a squeeker. When I squees the chicken, I drop a wooden egg from behind it.
After some play of being nervous about the trick, I find some flash paper and a lighter in the box that I planted, and ask the kids if maybe we are suppose to cook the egg. I give my helper about 10 different cooking utencils to use as wands with a chief hat, light the flash paper over the cup on the adult head, and I palm a realistic looking fried egg which I found at a candy store in the mall which I produce. I place it on the plate and I'm done. This way, I can show evertone the egg, and I can eat it, to show it to be real. with anything else it seems anti-climatic, and this way also makes kind of sense. |

Is there a video of this routine available? I've been interested in performing it, but already do silk to egg and was wondering if this would be too much egg magic.

I hope I'm not going too much off topic, but I would like to ask a question: Do any of you own the Jim Rainho Foo Mug? I have been using the Foo Mug in for many years. I don't even know where I bought mine, but I know it is the only one I had ever seen until I checked the rainho link. My mug is plastic, and painted gold. I would like one of better quality if it is available, but I don't need another one like I already have. I could find no pictures, so I am hoping some of you can help me out.
Thanks!
