Among professional hustlers and cheats, both casino cheaters and those that play in higher stake private games, when teaching a newbie a scam, or training him to be part of a hustling team, the budding cheat invariably asks, “What do I do if caught?” The standard answer is, “Don’t get caught.” It may seem this answer somewhat tongue in cheek, condescending or facetious and in some respects it is. However, when one thinks about it, the answer actually has merit. Experienced cheats usually pick up on suspicion well before it gets to the point of their being “nailed” or being caught “dirty” in the case of mucking. If one is doing a move poorly and is inexperienced, he can be suspected of having a card palmed in his hand. I would think he would be rather inept and pretty much of an amateur for that to happen. However, if one is experienced he will have done some splash moves first, gotten to know his opponents, been accepted into the game and so forth. If the slightest suspicion becomes evident at any time, he simply will not move. The best time to muck is when no one is watching which admittedly is sometimes hard to do. When a pro does makes his move, he will have his clean-up already planned and be able to be clean before any real heat comes down. Without being impolite, I would assume you are asking an academic question, are contemplating mucking at some point in the future or possibly have already done a small amount of mucking in a very easy game where no one is paying any attention. However, to address the question, if anyone is so inept and amateurish at holding out that he is facing serious suspicion when he has a card in his hand, he better have a quick clean-up available or hope the first bullet kills him so he does not have to endure the pain of the second or third. Better yet, I would suggest he forget about mucking and keep his day job. |

Doc Jon, an experienced cross-roader and mechanic, early in his career decided "I wasn't a mucker." The experience of having a deck change while he was holding out threw him badly. He never did that kind of work again, but eventually developed balls of steel for all the other stuff he did do at a table.

Personaly I wouldent sit there with the card palmed for the entire game I would dump it behind my knee or in my lap and when I need them for a switch or what not then I would put them into a palm
Just a thought David |
