I'm looking for a source for magnets of all kinds--bar magnets, neodymium, the kind that are discs with a hole in the center--and especially bar magnets, approximately 2" x 1" x 1/2"

Actually Ace Hardware has a selection of magnets. They have disk and bar magnets of different size and strength. It's nice because you can go look.

Anatole,
I use K & J Magnetics for all my magnets. I think this is what you'll for and they ship really fast. Countersunk Magnets » BY0X08DCS http://www.kjmagnetics.com/proddetail.as......&cat=173 Walter

If your looking for some really nasty magnets,
find a scrap dealer that has some old computer hard drives, the older the better. I have a few that are so strong they are dangerous, I can not pull them off of the file cabinet they are on, I can only slide them off of the side |

I remember buying some type magnet from them when Forcefield didn't have the kind I needed. I ordered from them several times after that. As I said earlier, Forcefield Magnets is a good choice, but I'll add a recommendation for K & J Magnets too.

Depending on what you are using them for, consistency might be an issue. If that is the case, I would suggest buying your magnets from someone that has been around for a while, since there is perhaps a better chance of them being around longer than some of the newer ebay dealers.
I have tried several of the companies mentioned above, but by far my favorite is K & J Magnetics. They are consistent in their sizes, reliable in their service, and helpful with their customer service. And they price their product right. What more can you ask from a vendor? Pedro Nieves |

The dealer I buy from on Ebay (emovendo) is hardly a noob. His numbers reflect a dedicated business practice, and I can personally vouch for his product, having used hundreds, if not thousands of magnets purchased from him.

Jo-Ann's Fabric and Crafts (a national chain) has two sizes that work well and very strong. You'll find all the packages stuck together in the craft section!!

I just ordered several varieties from http://www.apexmagnets.com and they were terrific to work with both in reply to an email inquiry and later on the phone. The 3/8" x 1/16" discs are incredibly useful!
