This improvement of Punchinger mini cub zag looks impossible. any clue? |

Not quite impossible. A friend of mine owns a vary old Mini Cube cube zag which works differently from the original method. The effect is the same but the two parts are almost separate. The position of the assistant is different. Think Jam Cube in reverse. This is a version I prefer over the original one.

It looks great on photo but a regular Mini Cube (build by Puchinger or smmagic) is still better value for the money.

Arnomagie,
the two props seem about the same size. I suppose there are some little differences in the size but it looks almost the same. Maybe in the depth. As you know, in the Jam Cubus illusion (Woodbury) and the Konundrum cube (Jack Murray) The secret is in only one part of the box if you see what I mean, so you can do whatever you want with the second half of the box - put it down over the lower half, fold it, or separate it completely...

Yes the all thing must be bigger... because in the normal cubzag the lower part is necessary !

It seems larger in the top section. Also the legs look out of place to me (too Small). To a layperson who will try to think it our rationally it only leaves their focus on the top section. With the other version they will spend more time trying to figure out how to fit the assistant into the whole illusion. If built right the as in the Puchinger or smmagic it is my opinion it will be much more deceptive to a spectator then the one pictured above.

And the design I must say visually is lacking... Dan Wolfes designs all the way!

I'm not sure it this is even real. Sure, it look like the standard Cub-Zag but, in order to perform the illusion as photographed the props dimensions would be a bit larger.

It's not much larger than a standard Cub-Zag.
See video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jEZY1JKXfcU&feature=related (video gives a bit more clue's than the pictures but please no exposure here!) |

At first I thought that was a significant improvment over the original.......but after watching that video I agree with you 100% Tristan. I would not spend the extra money on that version.

From a design standpoint, I've always detested the roller shade box on the side of the MKZ...ruins the clean lines of the prop. Although necessary, you can imagine what I think of the oil-rig on the side of that one. From a deception standpoint, I think it makes the prop less useful. Don't present that one ourdoors at a fair or on a fully lighted stage. From an ethical standpoint, it's Gunter building on his own creation. He has the right to exploit it in any way he sees fit. From a business standpoint, Gunter's new version is almost twice the cost of the standard MKZ. It certainly doesn't seem to be hurting my sales. However, Gunter also tells me that he is no longer building or selling the Standard MKZ and is ONLY offering the new version to his clients these days. That would not have been my choice, I wish him success with it. Dan |

The original uses innocent looking parts of the illusion to hide the assistant. In this version she is hiding in plain sight. Also the presentation being performed backwards is lame. From a dramatic standpoint, I believe it is much more impressive to insert the tubes first, and then as a surprise, separate the portions. If the top portion is large enough in any version, that there is any remote possibility that the assistant is hiding there, the illusion is ruined in my opinion, whether or not she is in fact there.

I don't see how this new version is going to fool anyone.

It is a bummer that what used to only need 2 people, now needs 3 just so you can do the blade bit. Kind of odd, I guess you could modify the blade so the blade would push the box across at the crucial moment??? Ill keep my original that I got from George many moons ago. She is still hanging in there pretty tough.

Add says can be performed ANYWHERE, but I tend to agree with Amazing earl. I don't think they were thinking of outside conditions with lighting when they make this statement. Man if I am wrong... please let me know.
