Nice video. Like the visuals and spooky music/sound in the background. The lighting in the various rooms gives a spooky visual atmosphere. The Ouija Board with all the basic info that bookends the video is a nice touch.
A couple of constructive thoughts. Consider smoothing-out/blending the audio where it cuts to and away from the woman speaking -- having the spooky music/effects continue in the background of her audio may help here (and see if you can remove some of the "white noise" in her audio). The cut to/from her is a bit jarring due to the sudden change in audio. Also, consider hiring (or bartering with) someone who does voice-over work to do the video narration -- just the right voice can add a great deal to the impact of a video that may be a "first impression" to sparking people's interest in attending your performances. |

Thanks for the great comments. TH1, I agree with everything you have suggested/stated. I look into making the changes you suggested.

Hi James,
I have some ideas I thought I might share with you. I too vote for a better narrator, although perhaps you should speak at some point so people won't be expecting the voice on the video to be the voice of the host. I would tighten up the video a bit. I feel the camera lingers a second of two more than it has to on scenes that are black or very nearly black. Also, I would fix the page that says the next seance is September 25. If this is an annual thing change that page to testimonials about this year's show and tell them when next year's show's first performance will be. I would also drop the links to the two magic stores, whatever revenue they generate is not worth pushing people off your site. In general I would de-emphasize magic altogether. I don't believe your audience is there to see a magic show. By all means, add value by doing your magic show, but call it something like "inexplicable experiments and demonstrations that will astound you" or something like that. And maintain that theme in your show. And fix the typo in the sentence that currently ends, "two-story public venue since it's construction. That should be its not it's. To get an idea of how important it is to have perfect grammar in a web site Google the words "bbc grammar mistakes" without the quotes (a direct link gives a 404 error for some reason). It's quite an eye opener. All in all, a credible (or should I say incredible?) effort. Best of luck, Rocky

Thanks for all of the great input! This was not meant to be a look at how great my video is...well, actually it was! LOL I asked for input from the community here to see what you think and wow, you have had some great suggestions. Fortunately, I was able to make most of the suggestions quickly but now I need a voice over from someone who has the right voice for this project.

Ask for Dick. He does a lot of voiceover stuff for Haunted attractions. I have worked with him before and he would be perfect for your video. |

Hi Jamie,
I loved your presentation last year at MindVention and wish I lived close enough to come see your seance in Houston. In addition to all the above suggestions, I'd also recommend learning from David Blaine: Instead of showing the PK effects, show your audience *reacting* to them. On video, without the atmospheric context and buildup, the PK effects are way underwhelming (listen to Bob Cassidy's Seance teleseminar about showing/not showing the shark in Jaws) -- and I don't think that's what you're selling anyway. Aren't you selling people an emotional experience? If so, show people being weirded out. Show them gripping each other's arms. Show them turning their head with a gasp to see something. Show them screaming. Etc. If David Blaine produced a seance trailer, what would it look like? |

Steven, Thanks for the link. I am going to check into it. I have re-edited the video with many of the suggestions here. Thanks again for all of you that have provided your input.
duanebarry, Thanks for the kind words about my lecture at Mindvention in 2010. That was my first time to attend Mindvention and I am definitely hooked! I have cut some footage out of he first go at the trailer and definitley want more audience reactions but sadly, I did not place the camera in the right spot for those types of clips. I will do that in the next seance but it may not be until January that I can get that kind of footage. Once I get the new voice over, I will share version 2 with the group. Thanks, Jamie
