If so, which “snob” brands do you spend money on and do you really believe they are “better” than their competition? If so, why?

I buy a toyota over any american built car. Why? had 3 fords and they were all lemons - barely survived 60,000 miles. I have a Toyota that shows no signs of wearing down and 100,000 miles passed a long time ago. After my american built car died I asked a mechanic friend what car I should get: he said, no question: toyota. Least repairs and easiest to fix.
I only buy hand made American acoustic guitars. I only drink foreign beer (other than sam adams, american brewed beer is swill) I drink single malt scotch over blended. |

When I finally bought an MP3 player I picked the Sony Walkman over the iPod because I was more familiar with the Walkman brand.
That's how you know you're getting older. I think with some things it may not be the quality alone that makes a difference. Sometimes we are simply more familiar or prefer the way one thing is put together over another. With some foods we just might prefer the way one brand tastes. Maybe one brand's product fits our hand or body structure better. With some things, brand really does make a difference in quality. The Bud-K knife may be cheaper than the Cold Steel knife, but the Cold Steel knife will last a hell of a lot longer. Bill, I think the problem is that you picked a Ford over a Mopar.

Beer? Unless you're very isolated you should be able to buy a local or near-local craft beer that is better than the imports. And it's fun to try a few too.

There's some good microbrews around here, but I've never had anything better than a Spaten Optimator.

I'm becoming an Apple snob. I haven't switched to a MAC computer yet but I love my IPad, IPhone, and IPod.

Seriously, I'm about the opposite of a brand snob. I look for quality and bang for the buck. I refuse to buy acoustic instruments from Gibson, however. I wouldn't accept the most expensive banjo Gibson makes as a gift.
I rarely drink coke, but when I do it has to be the real thing. All of my dress shirts come from Land's End. It's not brand loyalty; I just find they're well made and fit well. I do prefer Dixon Ticonderoga 1388-2/HB SOFT pencils, but they're not holy or anything. I'm just a wishy-washy kind of guy. |

Word. Walmart has cheap clothes, for other stuff though, like electronics, I'm wise enough to spend for quality. Except my no-brand TV. Maybe I'm wishy washy after all.

I base my initial choices on perception of quality to value, which is not always the cheapest. My second choices are based upon my experience with that product. My loyalty goes to the product/brand that most consistently fills my needs... and whether or not I have a coupon!

Apple Products
My family has opened the boxes of about 11 of them, since the Apple II. And I have set up 19+ for work. Every single one of them, worked out of the box. Not one had virus protection. All were retired in working order. My family now has pods and pads. Flawless operation.
