Does stealing the youth of children give him his amazing football powers?

Football has nothing to do with covering up the raping of children, and sitting on that bomb shell for 9 years. The old buzzard is lucky he did not go to jail.

What about the coach who saw it happening and DIDN"T STOP IT? He's still there and would have been on the sideline coaching this weekend, except he's 'been threatened' and will be coaching from the box instead.
If I had a kid that was good enough to play college ball, I sure wouldn't even let him apply to penn st. Why haven't any of the parents sued the guy who did it and the witnesses civily? and why didn't they make a big stink of this everyday since it happened? If it happened to my kid, the guy would be dead, but why didn't they go to the press and raise he\\? |

Al,
Is this the first time that anyone outside of the university has heard of this? Was there any suspions or rumors? |

No it was handed over to the DA in 1998, and the DA's office just covered it up. In Pennsylvania Joe Paterno is God, and he thinks that he did the right thing. He deserves to go to jail.
I believe that he coach that saw this happening will be indited eventually.

While I think Paterno has some moral responsibility, I'm glad that legally, we're not yet required under threat of imprisonment, with absolutely no firsthand knowledge, to report rumors about fellow citizens.

What he did is not against the law, but as a slippery clean paragon of the community his negligence is inexcusable. He could have nipped this in the bud if he was 1/2 the man he claims to be.

We could debate this all day long but the recored for those years speaks for itself. I believe it was 29 losses. That is just not an acceptable number of losses for what is supposed to be a top notch college football school. You can spin it all you want but it is a horrible record. How can you disagree with that? All of this tallk of Paterno being fired is nothing compared to what happened. The real issue here are the molested children. Lets not try and make Paterno a victim.

The Frazier family home is right down the street from me, and I remember seeing the whole Frazier family at the Dairy Queen. Both Joe and his son Marvais were very friendly guys. He sent his kids th Plymouth Whitemarsh High school. Joe was just a regular guy, who loved to talk to boxing fans.

The second part of it is that given his long-term record, they had reason to think that it was a temporary situation and that he didn't suddenly forget how to coach and recruit; i.e. that they still had a very good football coach, and their record would reflect that. The fact that they finished #3 in the country the very next year suggests that their judgment was correct, as do his recent (and current) rankings, and Penn State's top-5 status as an NFL feeder school.

The other reason he's continued there, and it's a big one is that he's the face of Penn State University. And that face is worth million and millions of dollars to the school. He's their brand. It's a brand that's overshadowed the academic part of the school.

That is exactly why the board of trustee's is meeting today. The stain that Joe Paterno has put on their reputation will last a generation. He's not a brand name, he is a disgrace to his office, and his folksy good old boy attitude makes me sick to my stomach, but maybe that's just me.

At most, he's 5th on the chain of culpability.

How many members of the magic Café blame the president for the banking crisis in Europe. Paterno was the face of Penn state, and if he did the right thing in 2002 he would have been a hero instead of being part of the cover up. There's a lot of guilty parties here, and enough blame to go around. I'm a PA resident, and a Penn State fan, but covering up for a serial homosexual rapist coach is inexcusable. Where does the buck stop?

An awful lot of fans have become very disenchanted with Joe over the last few years. The general consensous here (northeast Pa.) is that he should have retired years ago. I am not just speaking from my viewpoint but that of "Die Hard Penn State Fans" in Northeast Pa.
I am sure he forgot more than I will ever know about college football, but I believe he is somewhere between the age of 83 and 86...honestly I believe he should have retired years ago and I am not alone in this opinion. Of course we all know about opinions. He has been injured two or three times in the last few years on the sidelines and to be honest it was because of his age. I am sure there have been older coaches in football and other sports that have been suscessful at that age but is that another record he was shooting for to be the oldest man to ever coach? Time waits for no man. I said it once and will repeat it once more. This is not about Paterno but about the children that were molested. So lets not make Paterno a victim. He is a multi milllionare because of his ability to coach a football team so lets not feel to sorry for him. Please think about what is important in this whole mess and we will all realize it is not Joe Paterno and his ability to coach some college students in how to play football. Whether he should have retired years ago is no longer an issue as he has been fired and it now becomes a great beer and pretzels topic. Good Luck Joe, you "were" a great coach. I just hope you are comfortabale with the decisions you made as you have to live with them. I am through discussing this topic. Everyone is definitely entitled to their views.

Die hard Penn State fans were literally rioting in the streets even in light of the scandal, so I imagine that there were more than a few thousand who wanted him on the sidelines before the story broke. Was Paterno a better coach in his 50's and 60's than in his 80's? Absolutely. But if he's no longer "great," he's still very, very good, and was running a team that as we speak is ranked #12 in the country. I absolutely agree that he's not a victim, but he's not even close to being the main culprit in this story, either.
