Hello all,
Well, I am getting ready to watch the last DVD in Buster Balloon's Untitled Collection and a question just keeps running through my mind... How am I going to be able to make some of these in performance? Obviously these models are not something meant for line work or even restaurants, and that's OK. So where do you guys make large, intricate sculptures? For the most part I've been using balloon twisting as a way to draw a crowd for a busking type show, and then twisting after I've hatted the crowd as a way to make more money. From my experience typical audiences will wait between 15-20 minutes before they get bored. So a figure that takes an hour to make in that situation won't work. I know that Buster says he doesn't like and isn't fond of "deco" work, so I'm curious where he and the rest of you guys make this stuff. I really love a lot of these more advanced sculptures and can manage a few of them. I just really need some help figuring out where I can make them. So how about it? I'm looking forward to hearing how you guys manage this feat! Thanks :0) |

For larger sculptures I offer to premake and bring along with me to the event where I usually present it to the guest of honour. This makes me a little extra cash every year.

Sometimes when working on something big I will pre make parts of it. For example Say I was making the gorilla I would inflate all the balloons needed for the body and perhaps shape them into the simplest elements (Bird body's or loops). Throw all these into a large foldable hamper and begin. I would make the face there in front of them as it is the most interesting and personal part. Once that is done start throwing together the body. It should not take very long and it is impressive to see so much go up so fast.
