Can someone post a link or give advice for magicians insurance? Do you carry it? I make balloons and do magic for kids shows. I don't do any high risk magic. Milk and pitcher. Dollar from Lemon, Sponge Balls, Banana Surprise, Misers Dream, Streamers from mouth, Cards from mouth, Stage 3 card, changing one piece of candy, to multiple pieces via change bag.

...then bumps into the magician doing his straitjacket escape, causing him to fall towards the audience, while a lady quickly stands up out of the way, stepping on a little boy's foot, causing him to throw up his candy bar, as it comes down knocking a banana out of a girl's hand, as it falls down into the middle of an aisle, as a man slips forward from the banana peel and makes up a story he now has a whiplash and gets blackouts since he is poor and lives in the ghetto.

Which of course breaks the gas line illegally running under the carpet and starts the room on fire incinerating the front row.....
Seriously though, I think many of the performers here will tell you it is unwise not to have insurance. |

Another way to protect your self is have a contract with a "Hold Harmless" statement in the agreement. That way the booker becomes liable.

Yeah, that's a great way to do business, and have agents knocking down your door to work with you.
Yeah, have the guy that has nothing to do with the actual performance or the actual venue be liable, that sounds fair. |

Actually, many businesses that cater to kids do have such a clause in the paper work.
Most of the daycare centers, gymnastic places, party places, sports training events, etc, will even have the client sign a release. Still, a business, any business, needs liability insurance. For most, a waiver of rights is just a good bluff. If you hurt somebody, you going to court. And when you do end up in court, you need an insurance agent standing with you to pay the bill. Tom

I once added up the cost of paying $200+ a year for insurance for so many years and thought "That's a lot of money!"
Then I considered the expense of one lawsuit - even if I won, it's a lot MORE money!! Insurance wins! Ed |

If you’re doing balloons and you don’t have insurance you are taking a very big risk; a latex allergy is always a threat, especially if you have given a balloon to a child without the approval of the adult accompanying the child. Worse yet, if the child swallows a deflated balloon, not even the adnominal thrusts will dislodge the obstruction.

I worry more about the Mom who decides she needs a new couch and claims that I banged into hers whilst carrying my stuff in and out of her house. Nevermind a piece of 3/8" plywood won't do 15 years worth of damage ...

Ask your insurance company what they would be more happy to pay off; I’d take the couch damage any day BTW what kind of trick do you do that requires a sheet of 3/8” plywood? and whats a "whilst" |
