Guns & Roses Welcome To The Jungle, every song on that album is rocking and could easily be one of the top ten best rock albums of all time!

(Who by the way have put out some amazing albums as well.) I prefer Styx as a group and not with each other trying to fill in the other with look alikes. I am a Chicago guy in the first place so those midwest Grage Bands (which is really all Styx was, just like Cheap Trick.) that used to play the Brat Stop are high on my list. Odd how many albums Styx would have on that list. As you said it is almost the whole collection. I am a big Who fan as well, but Quad would not be my nomination from them. Certainly Tommy would.

I just hate that "Touch me, feel me" song. Makes me physically ill.
Can't believe I forgot about Van Halen! That's the first cd I put in the car when Summer hits. It's what tells me it's Summer!

Yep probably because you don't listen to it in context LOL.

Van Halen or Tommy?
"Pinball Wizard" was a good track but I think "Tommy" is an album for you old people. You put it on your phonographs and Charleston to it or some ****.

Listening to Tommy out of context (either the album, or the Café's own ) will yield interesting results. Tommy was a concept album, so keep that in mind. You want Who songs that don't work out of context? Look at Who's Next then read about the Lifehouse Project. And to round things off, I'll throw in Kilroy Was Here (see how I tied Styx and concept albums together? Synchronicity! ) |

It's really hard to think of Who songs that don't totally rock. IMO, they beat the Stones and the Beatles. Even their ballads put hair on your chest. Save McCartney for the chicks.

Interestingly enough I was on an airplane next to Pete Townsend. He told me that "Won't Get Fooled Again" was originally a balid. It wasn't till Roger started to sing it, in Townsends words that it got turned into this screaming anthem!
"The Kids Are All Right" wasn't chalk full end to end with rockin hits. "Face Dances" was pretty lame. "The Who By Numbers" where they lose all the over dubing and synth work and we just have Townsend droning on and on about alcholalism LOL. Squeeze Box came off that album and does pretty well. So I can go through a Who catelogue pretty easily and find non rocking stuff LOL. It is just that people are used to the CSI stuff. I have to say that "Its Hard" may be on of the most under rated albums.

Favorite sleeper Who song: The Real Me...great bass lick from Entwhistle, and a good showcase for Daltrey. Good cover by WASP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Te-jTA8g8Ys
Favorite Who album, though, is Who's Next. Only nine songs, and six of them are: Baba O'Riley Bargain Love Ain't for Keeping Going Mobile Behind Blue Eyes Won't Get Fooled Again Holy cow...that's a great start on a greatest hits album. Great nominees, but, seriously, if you haven't heard Californication...check out those tracks, top to bottom.

Goin mobile! *** what a cool song. That and Squeeze Box are really sleeper songs.
I have to say I like a lot of Townsends solo stuff too. Slit Skirts is a crazy cool song.

I won a Christmas present for my friend one year by being the first to call in with the correct name of the song when they played "Baba O'Riley." This friend also happened to be a massive Who fan who worshipped Townshend. It was pretty cool.

Easy mistake...though there is a song called "Teenage Wasteland" that sounds remarkably similar to "Baba O'Riley." It's a shame The Lifehouse Project never got off the ground...from what I've read about it, it would've been phenomenal.
And Critter is right...The Who are much better than the Beatles or the Stones. Did Jagger sing at the Freddie Mercury tribute concert? Nope. Did McCartney? I think not. Did Daltrey? Yep. |
