Michael: We may have to talk. I am serious about expanding the ebook to become something much more robust. The biggest challenge would be acquiring photos of the various models that exist out there today. I would want to show the models. I also would want to take a photo series of a step by step process for how I get a child on, in position and off. It is an idea I have had for a project for 2012. TYhe ebook has been great and doing great. I just would love to expand it into something much bigger or at least develop a new companion piece.

Back to the original topic. My experience with the Elite Chair Suspension is more on the negative side. I will not bash it here in a public forum but if anyone is interested in my experiences I will be happy to share via PM.

Send me a PM to why you think that Paul.

It says on Jay's website, "No foreign orders, please."

Does this mean the only way to buy it and get it delivered to Canada, is through Hocus Pocus, and not from Jay directly?

EDIT - Checked with Paul at Hocus Pocus, and he confirmed that they sell and ship this illusion anywhere in the world.

I suggest you send Jay a Private Message. He's on the Café regularly and he's a really nice guy.

By the way, I finally got to use my Elite Chair Suspension in a show last week and I really like it. Jay has made some great refinements to this illusion that make it more secure and easier to perform!

Michael and Kyle;

Here is a guy who should have downloaded Kyle's ebook on how to perform the chair suspension.

Notice how elegantly she gets on the board and how the head hanging gently over exactly as Kyle describes it

And the audience had the nerve to laugh! You would think that a top professional would have the $9.99 to spring Kyle's ebook! Smile

Thanks. I just used it again yesterday and the ability to remove the board without compensating made me feel like I was really doing magic. I didn't need to "double lift" the board at all.

I wanted to post an update as I have been using my Elite Chair Suspension in a number of shows. I must say this thing is built like a tank. When a kid climbs aboard, it doesn't even flinch ... rock solid. The angles are unbelievably clean even with kids sitting low looking up are just as awed. My only complaint is it is a bit heavier to carry but easily worth the extra calories. I mentioned in another thread ( http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......start=30 ), I purchased a Gator bag which makes transporting this a breeze ... Just layer the board and chairs, flip over the Velcro straps, zip it up ... and away I go with a solid bag with handle. The Gator bag simply looks impressive as well in addition to offering some extra pockets to store stuff. I have no trouble setting this up right in front of onlookers.

Howie, was that planned? Because some of the mirad of performances I have seen with chair suspensions could have actually had that happen. Either they were really cheap knock offs, or just performed very badly, or a combination of both. Hence the reason we have never wanted one.

Perhaps with a good quality one and Kyles book, it might actually be a cool act! Hmmm ....

Jay,

Very interesting ... was this a little Caddy or a larger one?

I'd imagine 1,000 pounds of weight was on the gimmick (one quarter of the car with one half the engine). Even if only 500 pounds, I don't think people would consider using a volunteer that big or trying that test with other models.

Other improvements are in the works.

Folks, Jay builds a great chair suspension model. It really is a wonderful illusion and I would recommend it to anyone who is wanting to add it to their own show. Keep up the good work, Jay.

If anyone has any questions at all about the chair suspension illusion, PM me as I would be happy to assist you with it.

Nancy;

I don’t know the performer myself, but in my opinion it was a trick gone wrong; looking on how the woman volunteer got up and walked after the fall, she is either an Oscar award winning actress, or she was actually injured and dazed as she fell.

I own a chair illusion and I would recommend you include the trick in your show; getting Kyle’s e- book will give you the instruction and confidence to perform it safely and professionally.

Trust me in that Ed's video and routine was supposed to happen that way. It is all a part of how Ed does comedy magic.

Thanks also for the kind words on my ebook. I really appreciate it and hope that it can help others as much as it has helped many already. My pleasure.

True Kyle, I can see where it may have been originally set up as a comedy routine by the way it began with both people walked out and there were no other props on stage.

It is inexcusable too use a woman and allowing her not slide, but crash to the ground landing and hitting her Coccyx and transferring the force up into her Sacrum.

Looking at the reaction of the stage manager and the ending of the routine by the woman walking off the stage limping, dazed and in need of help, it could not have possibly been planned to end as a comedy routine; it was not at all funny and could only be labeled a trick gone wrong

IMHO

Howie -

Ed Alonzo's unique Chair Suspension performance has been discussed before. Here are just a couple of the previous threads (with debates as to whether it was staged or not):

If you ever saw a good Milk Can Escape. The music runs out. The assistant walks over and asks the light and sound man to start the music again because "He's usually out by now". (looks at watch) Another assistant asks the sponsor if they know any doctors in the house. (It's hard to keep a straight face but they do) Another assistant looks behind the curtain and asks where the axe is. The light and sound person asks everyone to sit in their seats(without using a microphone). A stooge goes up to the stage and stands at the foot looking at the curtain and putting one foot on the stage itself as if he's ready to jump on it. (looking worried), The assistant comes out of the wings with an axe.

The curtain opens and the escape artist lurches forward like he just broke through the surface, from a 150 foot free-dive and didn't know weather he would make it.

That's the "show" part... the "business" part is all the stuff the assistants do to create the necessary drama without overacting - that's the key, no overacting.
I've sat behind the curtain listening to the buzz that's created in the audience and wait until there's tension but not panic. The hardest part is leaping through the curtain and gasping for air like I just out two seconds ago....... I don't think I'm giving anything away here, Anyone who has ever read a houdini book knows that Harry sat behind the curtain reading a book until he felt the time was right.

One time I had a cardiologist lay me on the stage. He put his ear to my heart while he looked at his watch..... Ah... that was fun. He asked if I wanted him to call the hospital and get a room ready........... I said that I'd be fine, Never, never, never let a Mark know he's been had.
The nice man waited in the parking lot while we loaded - just to make sure I was all right... He waited over an hour. - -You could say that we all did our job that day. So we all drove over to Dennys where I bought dinner and we all laughed forever, about the entire show. Which didn't bother anyone at the restaurant because it took them forever to get our food.

Look at the chair tape a dozen times and you'll see the lady is probably in her early 20s. You're first clue is that no one dresses that way today. The second clue is, that model suspension is designed for a kid that weighs 50 pounds. Why would anyone ( A top professional with years of experience, no less) invite an older woman, possibly prone to fractures, to get on a suspension that wouldn't support her?

Whoever believes that clip should give Ed and the entire crew a well deserved award for a great acting job from every one of them. Smile

Anyway..... I would like to point the post back where it belongs by stating here, for the first time anywhere,publicly... and for all to read.... that I don't believe Kyle's book should be an "E"book, That grade is too low. He should be selling an "A"Book.

And possibly there will be some new content in the future, Right Kyle?
