So I got a goldfish to go with my Kozuch. Thought I could start using a production having several routines now that involve liquid magic. Know that you can also use a king sized thumb tip for the fish. I am a bit concerned of ways to produce the fish but more concerned of the fishes safety and comfort. For one I can't leave the poor little guy cooped up without water for long. How long is too long? Also how do I keep the gimmick upright before the production? etc...

Buy Kevin James gold fish gimmick which is the same as this one.

As always thanks a bunch wmhegbli those have really helped me out. Will half to search around for more info. Got some ideas now and one of the more important questions I had was how long to keep them cooped up. Apparently it's 15 minutes, good to know.

That is with some water in as well. Don't forget only use water that has been treated with those tablets.

You can use the tablets or you can let the water set a couple of days and the chemicals will dispate.
I would not leave the fish in a T-tip too long. A stull bowl or even the pole method is gentler and less shocking on the fish. Richard

Not sure what you guys mean about tablets but I'll go through those other posts again. My guess is water purefication tablets I learned about in scouts. Little fish bowls aren't horrible for the fish though. I had a great aunt with a goldfish for ten years in a bowl that was no bigger than the one I use now. I will get an updated filtration tank and stuff later. For now though he should be fine as long as I change the water daily and do my research. Besides he is very tiny anyway.

I believe they are water neutralizer tablets. City water purification plants put chemicals in the water which will kill fish. The tablets or as Richard Hughes says, let the water set open without the fish for 2 days and the chemicals will leave the water.
Sounds like you have a feeder fish, I used them and they did just fine. You don't want to put them in to big a tank as fish grow in proportion to the tank they are in. Good luck and have fun! |

Ya I have a common goldfish which I have noticed doesn't seem to eat his fish food. He likes sucking his funny little fish lips on the rocks and walls.

In a tight, remember that you can carve a carrot to pass as a gold fish from a short distance. (It will even move!)

I just started working with this kind of effect. I am curious if anyone has some notes on the best ways to transport the fish to and from gigs. tupperware? bags? what works best?
People always suggest searching when there is something they have seen before on the forum, but the search function never works very well for me, and you have to pick a specific room, which all have hard to remember funky names. I usually try a search on google, which always works better which is how I found this page. Any suggestions on how to better search the forum appreciated.

I have the same problem. As much as I can see why they new magic Café search engine is the way it is. The old one was a bit easier to use. I think I read somewhere that they should be transported in the same water from their tank. Sloshed as little as possible too. Beyond that I am not very sure. Don't know much myself, I just go to perform down the street though. So a baggie is fine for me right now. As I get gigs further away this would be valuble information.

I've not yet invested in a filtration system to keep them at home since I've a pet store 2 blocks from home. As for transporting them to gigs, I just drilled a single hole in the cap of a water bottle. No special bottle, just what you'd get from a vending machine. At the pet store, I have them put the tank water in the bottle and then add a couple of fish.
The bottle stays securly in the my car's cup holder on the way to the gig and avoids splashing water in the car like those small pint sized tanks that pet stores sell. Another point is that recently I switched from using a water bottle to using the bottle from a Fuze juice drink. You can see a pic of the bottle here, but any such bottle wrapped completely in the company's label will do: http://www.drinkfuze.ca Using a plastic bottle that is completely wrapped prevents people at the event seeing me bring in the fish when I'm setting up for the show. I agree that 15 min is the max you'd want to keep them in a TT. As such, I put this effect in the first few minutes of my show. Lastly, if I have back to back shows, I omit water tricks since they take more time to setup and clean up. As for searching, I don't use the one on the Café since it requires that I know the particular forum. I just use Google's advanced search and tell it to only search themagiccafe.com. |

Ya I liked the old search engine better. Great thoughts though, a fuse bottle would be perfect for concealing the fish. That is what I will have to start using. A couple performances from now I'll start using my fish.

I have a tank and filtration system at my facility to keep the fish in when not performing. When performing and travelling I use a bait bucket with a rechageable aerator to keep the oxygen levels up. If you need to keep the water cold, take a small plastic pop bottle fill it with water and freeze it. ZPut this in the bucket and it will keep your water cool. You can get the aerators in the fishing section at Walmart or BassPro Shop.

If it's for close-up productions why not just get a Betta fish? They're easier to care for, transport, and stay the perfect size their whole lives. Plus with their proto-lung and adaptations for living in poor water they can survive for much longer periods of time in whatever you have and can be transported in a tuberware container. All this with aerators and bait buckets etc.. Times are getting harder and if you can lighten your load that's one way you can. Been using the same Betta for the last 3 years and he's served me well.

I use this trick to produce eight gold fish; I paid 30 cents each for the gold fish and I paid over $40.00 for the tank, pump, water conditioner and food to keep them alive
The kids and adults love it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JbhV4P58ro The trick is available in the USA from http://www.mandrgames.com/stageparlor.htm I transport the fish to the show in this and fill the trick at my car http://www.petco.com/product/12031/Petco......teSearch |
