Well, after two years the new book Performing Mentalism For Young Minds is finally finished. An amazing collection with over 250 pages, it is filled with routines and essays from magicians and mentalists who have been performing mentalism in their kids shows for many years. It is causing somewhat of a stir amongst the 'mentalists' because their are those who say it can't be done - obviously it CAN be done and people are doing it.
There are some wonderful essays on how to perform mentalism for children from David Kaye (Silly Billy), Kyle Peron and Mark Strivings. you can visit here to read more about it: http://paulromhanymagic.myshopify.com/co......ng-minds Here is a sample list of contributors: Mark Strivings, David Kaye, Tim Mannix, Paul Romhany, Richard Webster, Andrew Gerard, Wayne Rogers, Tony Binarelli,Bev Bergeron, Jim Kleefeild, Keith Field, Danny Archer, Andrew Gerard, Jack Dean, Greg Arce, Anthony Lindan, E. Raymond Carlyle, Professor Spellbinder, Matthew Johnson, Tony Chris, Cris Johnson, Reg Blackwood, Ken Ring, ChristopherTaylor, Chrisotpher Berry, TC Tahoe, Ozzy D, Magical Michael, Magic George, Ken Dyne, Jasper Blakeley, Ray Roch. This book covers performing mentalism for ages five to fifteen, and is aimed at mentalists and magicians who perform for children and family audiences. “The rest of this book is a treasure trove of fascinating mental effects that your young – and not so young – audiences will enjoy. These wonderful effects are so good that I’m tempted to dust off my old Riccardo outfit and start performing again. I know you’ll enjoy this book, and will come back to it again and again in the future. If you have any doubts whatsoever about performing mentalism for children, try one or two of the effects in this book. I know you’ll change your mind. Thank you, Paul, for compiling and publishing this valuable book.“ -Richard Webster “As for kids mentalism. The funny thing is people think of kids three or four years old when you say kids. This is rarely the case, even for regular kids performers. People do not give kids enough credit for being smart. They get mentalism. They get mindreading even at the age of five and six. I do think it can be done and have done it. Now yes, the times I did it the kids were eleven, and up but they get it. They certainly understand when Harry Potter gets a psychic image.” - Banachek CONTENTS Preface by Richard Webster Introduction by Paul Romhany Performing for Children an essay by Paul Romhany Parade of Children Prediction Trick by Tim Mannix World Cup Routine by Paul Romhany Cereal Box Prediction Larry Mahan and Robert D. Great work Paul. This is something I'm really looking forward to. Nothing better than doing something that some say can't be done. I'm sure with Paul's reputation and real-world experience, this will be a gem.

Thanks for posting it Paul. I will purchase it for sure. I was not great performing my mentalism effects for kids. Now I can find out what I am missing.

Paul,
Sounds great. Did you ever read Walt Hudson's 1970 era publication on performing mentalism for children's entertainers? To the best of my knowledge, Hudson was the first to publish a book dealing exclusively with this rather esoteric subject matter. Gerry |

Just curious, will most of the material in this book fool adults as well? Is this mostly parlor/stage material or is there closeup mentalism in there as well?

Well, honestly I'm not going to be able to give a full, serious review. There is just too much interesting stuff.
So I'll say this... The Introduction and opening essay by Rohmany are amazing. These are followed by a really good article by Mark Strivings (who I knew of as a mentalist, but didn't realize how much kids performing he does). These are both mostly theory, which is great. If you have the theory you can adapt and improve what you already. David Kaye even contributes an adaptation of an essay from his book. Following these are the routines (and more great theory too). There are tons of routines, from very funny and silly to very powerful and everything in between. I am VERY excited about many of the routines, but there's no need to tell you which ones. I figure if you see the contributors and are even remotely interested in learning (or improving) mentalism for kids then you'll know that you'll want this book.
