Hey everyone!
I'm new to this forum so this is my first post in the mentalism department. I believe that I will enjoy my time here I'm playing a little with the Center Tear as it is described is 13 Steps to Mentalism, but it do not seem to work with ordenary paper when I have to fold it out quick with one hand. The paper is too soft, so to speak. I know that the book do talk about the kind of paper to you but I would like to hear you about it. So here are my questien(s): 1) What experiences do you guys have with different kind of paper to CT, or billet routines in generel? 2) Is it possible to make it work with ordenary paper which mean I just have to practice more the way I already do? Thank you for you time. |

I only answer the 2nd question - YES.
For the 1st question (especially the part you ask about experience with billet routines in general) you should either search the forum or wait your 50th post.

I use index card stock for all of my billet work, including CT's

I've used Osterlind's PCT paper, which is terrific for its purpose, but now stick pretty much to business cards and like Bob, index cards. IMHO, you want to use something that's pretty much "organic" to any real-world environment.

Staples sells blank business card paper for use when printing your own cards. They come in perforated sheets and include a couple of hundred per package

Follow Bob Cassidy's advice and buy blank 3x5 index cards and have them cut in half. when folded in fourths they open like an umbrella.

Recognize also that there are many different published billet tears, some of which work better than others with different types of paper.
I normally use business cards in informal performance, and index cards in platform work. But I can work with pretty much anything if I need to in a particular situation.

Ask your local printer for some sample sheets of each of the papers he has on hand...Double gloss is especially nice if it's heavy enough...tears like a dream and is opaque.
Browse through your local (if any) paper suppliers that vend to printers. You may find one that suits your hands and method perfectly. It would be easier, tho, to adapt to Biz cards or Index cards, as mentioned above.

In a few days I'm about to give a video tutorial about my RZ center tear ... Does this offer any original benefits with respect to types of paper? I look forward to seeing this video, and am certainly interested in how well the tear meets the various criteria I have enumerated for evaluating centre tears.

It is. Despite the proliferation of gizmos, gadgets, and gimmickery, devious devices of deception and varied contrivances of cozening, low tech is still the best tech in my experience. To my mind, there is no better way to read thoughts than to rip it. Rip it good.

I will also talk about the benefits, the paper I use, the correct size and the motivation to put information on a piece of paper.
