I'm sure someone out there can do this - whether or not *I* can is a different story! But here's what I'd like to do:
-- Produce a sponge ball bare-handed
-- Tear it in two and show two complete balls
(I'm good up to this point)
-- Vanish both balls

I'm not quite sure how to work out the vanish. If I was behind a table I could throw them up. But no hankies or bags - just me in front of the kids.

If this is indeed possible by mere mortals, can someone point me to a good resource for doing this?

Sorry - forgot to mention that I always wear a buttoned vest.
Two small front pockets and a breast pocket.

Then again, maybe at that point it's time for something silly rather than amazing.
And if I go that way, then anything is avaiable!!
Gonna have to rethink this, possibly.

Attach some invisible thread between the two sponge balls. I assume you know how to make them appear and divide, since you were only asking for the vanish part of the effect. Without giving away any secrets, does the thread tied between them suggest a vanish? If not, you know where to find me for further discussion.

Use the RV. The video will show me doing it with a 5 inch rabbit at 2:06 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHEz2bqrp9Q

Two inch Sponge balls are too light for a topit.

If you have sleeves, try sleeving it or, do a retention vanish and while they are focoused on the empty hand, put the other hand up to your chest and secretly put it in your breast pocket. PM me if you want more help or ideas!

Depending on the follow-up, I would consider a double TT...

Jay Scott Berry showed his "FS2 The Power of Two" at a SAM lecture last year..
I bought it and it looks like this will accomplish what you describe.
I don't want to get into details here but check his website.

Ball in hand and ball to pocket with false transfers. check out dacris sponge ball tool box it has a couple ways to make both balls vanish.

Also you could always use a TT as well.

Ihop and Frank -- thanks for chiming in. (Three years later, I still haven't found a "move" I can do - or rather, give the time to practicing. When this idea stalled, I moved on. But I wouldn't mind coming back to it.)

Cheers!

I must say, take heed to Stanyon's advice, the S*n*d* gimmick. I was recently dabbling with it, and got bigger reactions to sponge balls with a small group of kids than I ever had before. My wife knew the gimmick was in play, but she said she couldn't see a thing.
