Does anybody know how many amps it takes to fire off one of those Estes model rocket engine igniters? Sure 9 volts, but how many amps does it take? Thanks.

Try putting a meter to your battery, or contacting Estes, they will probably help you out. It would probably only be a problem if you were trying to use the igniters more than once, you want it hot enough to glow, but not burn through. I think the Estes ones are a one shot deal. For the repeat shots, I think you need to look into glow plugs, either RC airplanes, or Theatre FX folks

The model rocket ignitors are 1 shot and it doesn't take that much. Exact numbers are going to vary between them because they are all made ( being careful ). Just look at two of them, the black "Stuff" is the inconsistant part and it affects the amps needed slightly. For sure fire's a lantern battery will do just fine, but its a little hard to palm..
