Did you ever see a Pennsylvania heavyweight named Roy Williams fight? He was a big guy, 6'5" or so, and he had a lot of his fights in PA. Shavers said he was his toughest opponent.

Guess they forgot to tell Bill Buckley.

With a name like Tiger you would think that he would be easy to remember, but I don't know this Frankford, PA resident.

I remember Cat Williams who was told by Ali after Ali knocked him out that if Cat was a few years younger when they fought he might have beaten Ali, but Ali was such a gentlemen I don't know. This is the same man who beat Sonny Liston with the phantom punch "it don't look like much, but it'll knock you all out"

Williams was a really good fighter...knocked out Ernie Terrell, fought a draw with Eddie Machen, and knocked out Sonny Banks (who was the first person to deck Ali as a pro). I think Ali's best fight was his third-round TKO over Williams.

I guess after a third round knock out Ali had to be generous to the Cat.

Actually I was only as casual fan until the Liston, Ali fights. The Johnny Carson show, the poems, the movie he made with Rocky Marciano. I just don't remember Roy Williams. The larger than life characters always interested me.

I just watched the Shavers fight and it looks a strange one to me.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Sadly, right up against the backdrop of discussing the heavyweight giants of the era, Ron Lyle died yesterday at age 70. He was involved in some great fights (check YouTube for Foreman-Lyle), and led Ali after 10 rounds before being stopped in the 11th.
