I am with you on this one!
The first book has one of the all-time greatest cliffhangers...
"Is there any point to which you would wish to draw my attention?"
"To the curious incident of the dog in the night-time." "The dog did nothing in the night-time." "That was the curious incident," remarked Sherlock Holmes. |

Not long ago I had sent an email to David Ben asking if there were any updates on this book and
all he wrote back was "no". |

I saw DAvid Ben yesterday and asked about the Vernon bio vol 2 and he said that it may takes a couple of year before the book get out because he already has a lot of stuff on his plate. Right now he is writing a bio of a Toronto luminaries, also involved in Magic, for the general public and it's taking most of his time.

I feel this is very unfortunate. David Ben started a project, gave Vernon's fans expectations of 2 volumes, left us hanging on a cliff-hanger and is off to more interesting projects.
I understand he is busy, but that will never change, it will only get worse with time. Since Vernon Part 1, he finished the Zarrow book (and maybe others) and now he is working on a book on Toronto magician (it sure sounds as interesting as Vernon Part 2)? It seems he has lost interest in Vernon. Ben there, done that. I would not hold my breath. Oh well, I should go back to reading the Zarrow book, or maybe I should watch the Dani DaOrtiz DVDs, or maybe practice John Bannon's new trick... Sounds familiar? |

DAvid Ben is a very busy man. The Vernon bio part 2 will be done you can be sure of that. Just be patient please! He has told us some very fascinating stories about VErnon that are going to be in the second volume. Most of it (if not all, I'm not really sure about this)is already written by the way but he has to shrink each and every chapters to a more managable size for publication. This is a labor of love that take lots of time.
In the meantime you should read the fascinating story about Erdnase that's going to be out in a few days if not now, the Magicol magazine written by David Ben and edited by Magicana. Murphy's Supplies has bought almost the lot of the printed magazines so it will be available for the first time to everyone as it was only for subscribers before! Trust me this will make wave upon wave in the Magic Community! He may have the real candidate to solve the mystery that is Erdnase!!!!! Yves |

David Ben is fantastic and reliable. I have no worries that he will finish Vernon volume 2.
From http://www.davidben.com/author.html : Currently, David is writing several books including the authorized biography of Canadian media mogul Allan Slaight, the second half of Dai Vernon: A Biography, a book on the life and magic of Paul Fox, and a medi[t]ation on Artifice, Ruse and Subterfuge at the Card Table. [Allan Slaight, by the way, edited the unbelievably awesome (and commensurably massive) Stewart James 2 volume set, The James File, which is currently up for auction on the big site (complete with the accompanying index volume) for peanuts right now with 5 hours remaining.] |

What happened to the Dad Stevens book?

What most people don't realize is that volume 1 took him seven years to write. And that was before he was the editor of a magic magazine.
But David has shown me many times over that good things come to those who wait. |

I agree with all of you.
However, Vernon Part 2 would see the light of day sooner if Ben did not spend his time writing other books instead. |

Will probably be out before the Larry Jenning's book. Wagers anyone?

Silverking, did you read Vernon Part 1?
Were you aware that there was much magic press about this being a 2 part story? Probably not. In any event, in your opinion I am the only person who has read Part 1 and has been looking forward to Part 2. I guess no one told you that the world revolves around me |

I've never met David, but am a huge fan of his work. I have heard from a mutual friend that I "Shouldn't hold my breath" while waiting for volume 2. I have no doubt that it WILL see the light of day, and it WILL be worth the wait.

David Ben is a unique intellect; one in a vanishingly small group of authors who elevate magic.
I have no problem whatsoever waiting for Volume Two of the Dai Vernon bio. If we do happen to see any of Mr. Ben's great writing between now and then, well - so much the better.
