One thing I don't get. Is the coin using the thumb muscle as the catch or the hand as the catch?

Both muscles hold it, but it pops free from the thumb side. If I am guessing properly what you mean by "catch", it would be the hand.

Aha. At the moment it wants to pop the other way, which actually is kind of useful, but not for what I intended!

I have a feeling most people practice the muscle pass just for the sake of being able to do it, without having an actual routine to put it in. To me it was never worth the effort of learning just so I can do a semi-effect of the "coin falling up".
I'll admit it; the most height I've ever gotten out of this is 1 inch. That's because I never practice it. If I find a routine that suits me and makes good use of it, then I'll consider it. I agree with Paul Wilson when he said that it is better used as a secret move, not as an open one.

I agree with Paul Wilson when he said that it is better used as a secret move, not as an open one. I was recently at a club in West Palm Beach, and on my way out I did a short one coin routine for the bouncers, which included the coin falling up. As people continued to leave the club one bouncer shouted to them, "This guy can make coins levitate! Watch This! Hey, guy, make the coin levitate again!" I did the "coin levitation" at least 10 times in a row, without any loss of impact. Each time I would set up the "levitation" with a production and follow it with a complete vanish. The productions and vanishes were equally magical in appearance, but the levitations are what they will all remember; simple, but effective. This example is not offered to suggest that the MP does not have merit as a secret move (it sure does!), or that the more obvious application is the better one (since "better" is far too relative to get involved with), but rather to remind us, "A place for everything, and everything in its place."

Matt you have a good point: different strokes for different folks.
I don't know, but I've felt that for an effect that lasts 1 second that I have to practice for weeks isn't worth it. In my priority list it is low, but maybe someday it will be higher. But then again, we both know our styles differ, which is a good thing. Hey we haven't sessioned or even hung out in a while. Toss me a line when your free. I'm leaving work now, peace.

I have seen the MP performed a couple of times.
I’ve also seen laymen's reactions to it, and I think it is one of the quickest - most impossible coin tricks out there. I do have to agree to some point with what "cardguy" said, is it worth the trouble learning it? I think so. So I am still working on it, with a poker chip with clear tape on the edges - together with some comedy I learned from one of the Chad Long lectures. I hope to get a nice routine up and running before Easter.
...As long as i`m not a world-champion at anything, the great reactions of doin` magic will do just fine.....
