Hi everyone.
My name is Nicolas I am 21 and have been a magician for the last 7 years. I have been performing both on stage and close up but my real passion is card magic where I am found at a high skill level right now. I have joined the University of Dundee in September and I was found amazed that they did not have a magic society, therefore I created one. I am writing this post in an attempt to gather ideas and information regarding our meetings and maybe tips from others that are attending other similar magic society meetings. First of all let me clarify that: 1) Most of the members have no or little experience with magic. 2) Every session lasts an hour and a half. 3) In the clubs agenta we have selfworking card magic for the first 2 months. 4) At the moment new members are taught approximately 2 self working tricks in a meeting, practice them with me going around and giving tips. 5) At the last 15 minutes we watch a demonstration from card magicians such as Dani Da Ortiz, Lennart Green and so on as a way to introduce them on what good gard magic looks like. (No street magic mambo jumbo). 6) I am looking for ideas on what to include in the meetings, teaching methods and so on. If you can be kind enough to give me your thoughts it would be great. To my knowledge, Penn State is the oldest university magic club (though only founded in 96)... Might be helpful! http://www.clubs.psu.edu/up/magic/

There is also one at NYU in New York.
Some easy reference material for newcomers are all the Fulves Self Working Books. Two volumes just on cards. The one one just about every close-up category. Good stuff, inexpensive paperbacks.
