I have always been a huge fan of Lewis Jones' material. I find his work inspiring because the simplicity and cleverness of his methods are unique. Fortunately, his latest manuscript "The Book of Revelations" keeps that bar raised nice and high. There is plenty of wonderful material for magicians and mentalists alike.
As usual, Lewis Jones exploits each principle to get the maximum impact out of each presentation. As you read this volume, you will constantly be asking yourself "Why didn't I think of that?" Highly recommended. Mick Ayres

I just ordered this and Top Score from Lewis. Since it's coming from across the pond, it most likely won't arrive for at least another week. Looking forward to reading both.

I can’t think of praise worthy of such a fine creator as Lewis Jones. I guess the fact that I have every book he has released is at least a minor commentary (aside from “Ahead of the Pack” which he released with John Avis). Mr. Jones always never seems to run out of (creative) steam and his latest release, “The Book of Revelations” is more evidence. Here are just a few comments about some of my favorite material from this excellent limited release.
Underhand-This immediately stood out, largely because I had been thinking about newspaper routines (read: predictions and divinations). Lewis’ method made me laugh out loud with its ingenuity. Basically a participant places his hand on a newspaper and traces it, then he marks an “X” on any of the words. The paper is never received back or touched in any way (nor is the word forced), but the performer can unerringly reveal this word. Beautiful. Look, No Cards- Is a rework of a recent release which enabled the performer to reveal thought of cards. In Mr. Jones interpretation eliminated the use of actual cards and allowed a more free selection of any value. I think this will be of interest to anyone who likes mental card work. Rack and Bled 2- Which is a OOTW routine with a completely different presentation. Basically, the routine involves a series of bets, which allows the color separation to come as a complete surprise. In fact, the work is done right in front of the participants and is completely impromptu. Genius! Artful- Is a wonderful way of duplicating a drawing completed on a business card. People who know me know how much I value these types of tools. You will too. Live Long and Prosper-is a “fated card” type effect. I won’t explain it, but it is one I will being trying out on some folks, soon enough. Main Attraction- is a haunted/animated card type of effect. I have toyed with Earl Nelson’s and Ken Krenzel's versions, but Lewis’s takes this routine off of the table table, so it can be done anywhere. Lovely. I could go on and on, but anyone who has purchased any of Lewis’ works certainly needs no recommendation. Nonetheless, I can heartily attest that both mentalists and magicians will find plenty to ponder and perform. http://www.hutch.demon.co.uk/lewis/the_b......ones.htm |
