So I just have to share this with you all. I was at a high school today, in the Caféteria area getting to know some of the students. When I heard some commotion going on across the room.
Next thing I hear is Mr. Magic Man can you come over here from one of the teachers. This girl who has down’s syndrome fell and landed flat on her face, that was the commotion. She was sitting up and crying her eyes out. The teacher said, can you show her some magic. Not having anything, I quickly palmed a sick of gum from my pocket. Took off my ring, got on my knees so we were eye level, and said to the girl, here would this shinny ring make you happy. She smiled, and I turned it into a stick of gum right before her eyes. She lit up and all the kids around her were in awe. Needless to say she promptly chewed the gum, don’t know if that breaks any rules but she sure did like it better then my $1,200 diamond wedding band. Good thing too!! What a great day!!
No one said it would be easy, or did they?

That's great. Those moments are very special for them as well as us. I did a birthday gig at a daycare a few months ago. There was a 4 year old there that I sort of know (her mom and my wife are friends). Her dad was murdered a month or 2 earlier and of course she's having a very tough time. All the kids had a blast with my show and I left. But I found out later how happy the show made her and how now she wants to be a magician. That balances out the crappy gigs - I don't have many crappy gigs, but they happen and I feel bad about them for a while till I have a few good shows - and I have to remember all the cool moments like that.

Thanks guys, it made my day.. It's little moments like this, that makes all the other days worth more than anyone who does not do magic will ever understand.

As a magician I go to people’s home and play with the kids, as they help me share my fun tricks.
Then I pull out my rabbit and let the kids pet him. Then I have birthday cake and go home happy |
