Although not a magician, John Ritter hosted 3 of "The World's Greatest Magic" specials.
Known mainly for his work on "Three's Company" and his newest sitcom, "8 Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter," John is a comical genious and will be greatly missed. He died last night due to an unforseen heart condition.

I almost had to cry when I heard. I am a big fan of John Ritter.
On a Magic note I own “Seymour” the Dove that sat on John Ritter’s shoulder for the World's Greatest Magic. |

Sad news, indeed.
I recently saw him in the excellent TV series "Scrubs" where, if I remember correctly, he played the wayward father of the hero. |

Yes this was truly sad and tragic, as far as John Ritter, and (Johnny Cash) too. I was a big fan of John Ritter. My favotire movie of all time is, and always has been "The Wizard of Oz". He played years ago the writer of that book (Frank Baum) in a made for T.V. biographical movie. I taped it, and that his a good source to see him at his Dramatic Best, I think. It was a very good, and informitive movie, one of his best IMHO. R.I.P., to both Johnnys.

Eddini--
That's interesting. Harry Anderson played the wizard of oz on a cd set. (They performed together in other things.) John was one of my 2 favorite perfomers. I think of him daily. Ellen |

The Oz flick wasnt' terribly factual, but it was very heartfelt and Ritter did a very nice job in it.
He'll be missed. |

The Oz flick wasn't that factual? I didn't know that, not having read anything on L. Frank Baum, or Frank L. Baum, (I forget which). Was that at least how he came up with the characters for the Wizard of Oz. I know the O-Z was accurate on the Filing cabinet for the name Oz. I don't want to get off topic so if you'd like to PM me about it, that would be cool. Anyway he's in a better place, and is probably making God and the Angels laugh as we speak!!!

I'd suggest reading one of the actual biographies of Baum. I think there are one or two at least that should give you a real leg up on the facts of his life. Very interesting fellow Mr. Baum. But yeah, the made for tv thing was a bit softened as all tv bios seem to be. Ritter was wonderful in the role. Here's and interesting web article you might like.

Frank Baum was near where I live--chittenengo (upstate ny). They have OZ fest every year with munchkins from the movie--they are still alive! Usually the coroner and the mayor or something like that.
