Engineers have said they were "stunned" to unearth a 17th Century cottage, complete with a mummified cat, during a construction project in Lancashire. The cottage was discovered near Lower Black Moss reservoir in the village of Barley, in the shadow of Pendle Hill. Historians are now speculating that the well-preserved cottage could have belonged to one of the Pendle witches. |

Neat story, and I enjoy the atmosphere of such things, but I wonder why they call it a "mummified cat." It appears to be cat's bones. There is a large difference.

This is a great story, but it's obviously ridiculous to say that finding some cat bones (as Garrette points out, this is not a "mummified cat") means this cottage belonged to a witch.

Seems like a visit to Gawthorpe might be in order next time I make it across that way. |
