Many of us spend so much time on our show that we fail when it comes to marketing ourselves as effectively as we should. We tend to think we can handle everything including designing a logo or promotional materials, even if we have no background in it at all. Just because you own publishing software does not mean you are graphic designer and should do it yourself.

A graphic designer really is much, much more then person who just makes something “look good”. A real graphic designer has the ability to design a piece that effectively communicates a message or need of the client. If the designer fails in doing this, then the designer did not do his or her job. It is as easy as that.

Graphic designer’s communicate a message through the medium of print and online sources. In order for any designer to do the right job, they must be able to ask the questions up front of the client. They have to really understand what makes that client's services or products unique and define the message and the problem that needs to be conveyed. ONLY when they do this, can they develop a design that communicates effectively to do what it needs to do in the intended markets.

I am very lucky and unique in that I am a designer who 1) takes what I do seriously 2) I am also a magician so I speak the language and 3) I have a passion for marketing and work for a marketing agency as my day job. To me, this is the ONLY way I can be able to have the ability to design effectively for clients and to really grasp what it is they are after and the solutions the design needs to create.

So if you yourself do not have these traits or abilities, then it does you no good to design something yourself. You will only end up creating something that looks unfinished or amateurish and doesn't communicate the way it needs to.

Spend the money and locate someone who really knows the trade. You will be grateful you did.

I will try and post some samples of different types of logo and print design so you can get an idea of what is out there and how an effective design can brand you effectively in your markets.

This is an example of what I refer to as branding through image. It is using a defined look of your character to be the brand itself. This is something I did called realistic Figure Art. Unlike a caricature, this does not abstract or make fun of features of your body. Instead it is a graphic representation of how you really look to the audiences.

This is a logo design based on a particular aspect of what makes the entertainer branded to his audiences. This performer is known for his eyes and how he uses them in his shows. Therfor, we designed a logo that highlighted this branded look.

This is what we refer to as a ligature based logo. It means it is based upon the letters or initials in the performer's name.

Thanks, Moonrazor. I appreciate it. I will try and post more example when I get a few minutes. The idea is to show folks out there what is possible in regards to branding themselves.

However I could do an RFA style logo that looks exactly like you. That would be cool.

I will be glad to see it. If you could put one together of me looking similar like the one in my backdrop of my video on 52 seconds, let me know. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHEz2bqrp9Q (Without the goatee of course).
