Odd thing came in the mail this week. I ordered some Ike dollar coins to use with my new TUC a few days ago. When the coins came in the mail there was a note on the envelope, "non machineable coins". Just wonder what would make a coin non machinable and why would a coin dealer write that? The coins look fine to me.
Of course this woodworker has no plan to machine coins, Just curious.

When you placed the order from the coin dealer you mentioned the fact that you need to machine the coins?
So the coins he sent you may have some collectable value instead of spenders (over circulated coin. Thereby the fact that he is a coin dealer and makes his living from the sale of coins to him all coins are non machinable. Here is a tip, never tell the coin dealer your going to machine the coin, this way you will receive better coins for the same money, Since your a collector and most collectors would return sub standard coins if received. As a former coin trader if a guy would tell me he does not care about the quality because he going to machine it, my only thought would be "good time to get rid of some trash that would never sell at a premium price per quality. Now if I had to send better examples I may include a note stating such. In this case the dealer sent a not stating Non Machinable Coins. That should answer your question. Also, I should point out that there was a year or two that they government made Ike's in silver and not clad composition. |

The coins are machinable. The envelope can not be put through a sorting machine, because it contains coins.

This is now one of my favorite Café posts.
I would have thought the exact same thing as Gimpy did, yet, it all makes perfect sense when you look at it from a non-magician point of view.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
